Faculty Assembly Minutes

Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 12:20 pm.
Approval of the Minutes: The minutes of the October 3, 2014 meeting were approved as submitted.
Announcements:
Betty Bennett has hired a new assistant named Joel Jones. Some of you may know him since he used to
work in HR. He is fabulous!
Caroline Guardino announced the Uff holiday happy hour will be from 2:30 – 5:00 on December 5 at the
Boathouse. Even if you are a non-member please join us for more information and some fun.
Liz Gregg announced that the last Leadership Speakers Bureau Series of the semester will be from Dr.
Frank Denton, editor of the Times Union. It will be on November 19 at 10:30 a.m. in the Student Union
Auditorium.
Jen Kane updated faculty on the COEHS Holiday Party. It has been planned by our support staff and Lois
has done a great job. The party will be Thursday, December 4 on the 3rd floor lobby. Deirdre’s dad is in
a singing group called the Sons of the Beaches and they will perform at our party. We will have
refreshments, a bake off again and we will raffle off baskets.
COEHS Standing Committees, Chair Reports of New Business:
Graduate Standards and Curriculum Committee - Ellie Scheirer reported the committee met and they are
meeting this coming Monday and looking at a large amount of policies.
Technology Committee - Caroline Guardino reported the committee will be meeting right after this
meeting and they will select a chair at that time.
Undergraduate Standards and Curriculum Committee - Jen Kane reported that they had a few APCs to
review and they’ve been approved at the university level.
Personnel Committee - Becky Schumacher is chair. In the October meeting they got organized and
reviewed the bylaws. We are currently reviewing 8 policies.
Long Range Planning Committee - Bess Wilson thanked them for filling out the survey. If you want to
see the results, there is a report on the O drive.
Student Issues Committee - Bess Wilson is the chair. We had our initial meeting to review the charges.
Executive Committee - Let Candice Carter know if you won’t be here and if enough people are out they
will cancel Faculty Assembly meeting on December 5.

 16 school counseling students attended the state convention
 Becky Schumacher is serving on a task force of the FL DOE integrated service model
 Chris Weber is a legacy book award nominee
 Jason Lee, Carolyne Ali-Khan, Terry Cavanaugh, and Jennifer Kane gave presentations at the
symposium on Innovation in Academic Technology
Search Updates:
 Searches are well underway: reviewing applicants, phone interviews
 Educational Foundations search has phone interviews today
 Clinical met yesterday and will be doing skype interviews next week
 The ESOL/TESOL search has 34 applicants and they plan to have around five phone interviews in
late November
 Deaf Ed has 2 applicants and will keep recruiting
 Early Childhood doesn’t have a gender diverse pool - know of any males?
 Deaf Ed is looking to see how we can recruit more applicants
 Dean search candidates will be in and out so please try to avoid time conflicts
Reminders:
 The writing group’s next meeting is today right after this meeting
 Faculty Associates application review is November 21
 Faculty Support Grant are due November 14
 Scholarships and fellowships are now open so encourage your students to apply
 It was suggested to put the scholarship reminders in the kiosk in the lobby
Accreditation:
 FLDOE report is due next Saturday and we will submit on Friday so you might receive an email
from Megan Schramm-Possinger asking for a little more information.
 ECATS vs. Iwebfolio – we looked into options of how to track our data. We have 2 options:
o Do what we are already doing with ECATS
o Move to iwebfolio entirely
 Megan Schramm-Possinger would like your feedback.
Discussion Time: What do we seek in a new dean?
Dr. Janson will facilitate World Café Style Conversations about our prospective dean. We’d like people
to contribute their thoughts about desired qualities and characteristics we seek in a dean. We will hold
4 conversations simultaneously and then hosts will recap briefly what was said and report back each
conversation at 2:00 pm. We will have 12 minute cycles and after time is called then you will get up and
move to the next table.

Dean Search Update: Dr. Samant thanked his colleagues on the search committee. It is not an easy task
and we have a good group coming to campus. Their CVs are on the website and have been distributed
by email too. Dr. Samant gave some pointers of what to look for in a dean and what kinds of questions
to ask the dean candidates. Nicholas Eastham will video tape the sessions and they will be available the
day after.
