UNIVERSITY OF NORTH FLORIDA PARENTS ASSOCIATION BY-LAWS ARTICLE I NAME: University of North Florida Parents Association ARTICLE II PURPOSE: The mission of the Parents Association is to serve as a link between parents or guardians of UNF students and the University to … Unite parents, family members, faculty, and staff as partners in support of the academic and personal success of students Nurture the relationship between parents, families, students and the University in recognition of the critical role parents and families play in the education of students Facilitate on-going communication to educate parents and families about University policies and campus resources ARTICLE III MEMBERSHIP: Membership shall be open to all parents of currently or previously enrolled students. Active members are those who have paid the annual dues established by the Parents Council. Membership levels include Annual, Four-Year, and Lifetime. Annual Membership will be for period of August 1 thru July 31 of each year. Four-year memberships lapse on July 31 four years after receipt of dues. ARTICLE IV PARENTS COUNCIL: Section 1: The Parents Council shall consist of up to 15 active members of the Parents Association membership. The Council shall consist of the following officers: President, Vice President, and Secretary. A designee of the Office of Parent & Family Programs and the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs shall serve as ex-officio members. Section 2: Council Members will be appointed for a 2 year term. The officers of the Council will serve a maximum of two one year terms or until their offices shall be declared vacant and their successors are elected. Section 3: Election of Officers will be conducted by the Council membership. Section 4: Duties of the Officers will be: President: The President shall preside at meetings of the Association and of the Council and all other duties that customarily pertain to the office of the President. Vice President: It shall be the duty of the Vice President to preside in the absence of the President. Secretary: The Secretary shall provide all Council members and the appropriate University offices a record of meetings of the Association and the Council in the form of minutes. Designee of Office of Parent & Family Programs: The designee of the Office of Parent & Family Programs shall serve as an ex-officio member of the Council and shall consult with and advise the Council officers and other members with regard to all Association matters. The designee of the Office of Parent & Family Programs shall maintain a repository of all council records and correspondence. Section 5: In case of any vacancy in the Parents Council, through death, resignation, disqualification or other cause, successors may be named to hold office for the unexpired portion of the term of the member. If Council members are absent for two consecutive meetings, they may be asked to reconfirm their commitment or to resign their position. Section 6: The members of the UNF Parents Council will make recommendations on fundraisers as needed. Section 7: Council meetings may be conducted, as needed, either face-to-face, teleconference, email, or by fax. ARTICLE V COMMITTEES Committees shall be formed as deemed necessary by the Parents Council. ARTICLE VI COMPENSATION No member of the UNF Parents Association shall receive compensation for services to the Parents Council. ARTICLE VII MEETINGS Meetings of the Parents Association will be held each Fall semester during the annual Family Weekend and in the Spring semester during the annual Spring Fling. Notice of each meeting of the UNF Parents Council will be sent in the form of an agenda to all Council members either through electronic or postal mail, not less than five (5) days before the meeting. ARTICLE VIII QUORUM At each meeting, fifty one percent of the current Parents Council members will constitute a quorum. ARTICLE IX AMENDMENTS These by-laws may be amended, enlarged or repealed by majority vote of members present at any meeting of the Parents Association. Written notice of the proposed amendment shall have been provided to all members of the Parents Association prior to any such meeting.
