APC avoids approving courses that significantly overlap with existing courses. Significant overlap exists when the topic, purpose and most of the course objectives are similar. If there is significant overlap, departments are encouraged to engage in collegial attempts to revise the existing course to accommodate the needs of the requesting department or make changes to the proposed course so that it extends and/or complements the existing course.
