Women’s Health and Prenatal Care Clinical Practicum will change from six weeks to four weeks and from five semester credit hours to four semester credit hours to accommodate the addition of two elective practicums into the curriculum. This course meets the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) following standards: B3.03 Supervised clinical practice experiences must provide sufficient patient exposure to allow each student to meet program-defined requirements with patients seeking: a) medical care across the life span to include, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly, 1 Revised 04-06-11 and posted fall of 2011 b) women’s health (to include prenatal and gynecologic care), c) care for conditions requiring surgical management, including pre- operative, intra-operative, post-operative care and d) care for behavioral and mental health conditions. Course objectives for the course (student – centered, behavioral focus) Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Evaluate the presentations of the most common clinical OB/Gyn entities in the primary care settings. 2. Demonstrate diagnostic and management skills for OB/Gyn patients presenting in the ambulatory and inpatient settings. 3. Formulate geriatric treatment plans appropriate for OB/Gyn patients in the primary care setting. 4. Perform complete histories and physical examinations and assemble the findings in the correct documentation required in the SOAP format. 5. Select and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests pertinent to OB/Gyn entities, and demonstrate knowledge of the laboratory tests required to monitor patients on certain medications. 6. Develop and utilize materials to educate the OB/Gyn patient about their particular pathology and therapeutic regimen. 7. Utilize library and interactive computer tools for research, study, literature review, and consultation. 8. Assemble and evaluate the community resources available to OB/Gyn patients in the rural and urban setting. 9.
