An ongoing assessment by the Graduate Faculty in the Department of Rehabilitation
Studies determined that a standalone course in Career Counseling and Foundations was
needed in the curriculum of the Rehabilitation Counseling and Substance Abuse and
Clinical Counseling programs, to meet the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and
Related Educational Program (CACREP) standards. The graduate faculty approved this

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Evaluate theoretical models, counseling techniques, and informational resources
regarding career counseling.
2. Synthesize current ethical/legal issues with regard to the use of computer-assisted
career guidance and apply ethical standards to career counseling and consulting
situations, issues, and practices.
3. Analyze employment information, career planning resources, employment
trends, labor market information, resources about job tasks and salaries, and future
perspectives related to all occupational fields.
4. Appraise clients' personal characteristics and social-familial-cultural conditions
related to career decision-making processes.
