To: College of Allied Health Sciences Graduate Curriculum Committee From: Lloyd Goodwin, Interim Chairperson, Department of Rehabilitation Studies Date: 2-8-12 Re: Changes to the 2011-12 graduate catalog The Department of Rehabilitation Studies (REHB) faculty has met and agreed that the following changes should be made to the 2011-12 graduate catalog; see attached marked catalog copy. The rationale for the changes on the attached curriculum changes are as follows: Certificate in Vocational Evaluation Change: “The courses included in the certificate program may allow students with a related degree to function as a professional vocational evaluator” will be changed to “The courses included in the certificate program may allow students with a related degree to function as a vocational evaluator and meet the academic requirements to register as a Professional Vocational Evaluator (PVE).” o Rationale: A new credential, the Professional Vocational Evaluator, was established in April 2011 and the certificate will allow students to meet the academic requirements to become a registrant. Change: REHB 6405 will no longer be a required course; it will be an elective, changing the total number of electives from 3 s.h. to 6 s.h. o Rationale: REHB 6405 is not required for the PVE. An increase in electives will provide more flexibility for students who may have already completed one or two of the required courses for the PVE and still allow the students to obtain a certificate in vocational evaluation. Thus, REHB 6405 is not changing and a course change proposal is not required. Masters in Rehabilitation Counseling and Masters in Substance Abuse and Clinical Counseling Change: Add a new, required course REHB 6380 Career Counseling in Addictions, Rehabilitation, and Clinical Counseling. It will replace an elective in the Rehabilitation Counseling program and will replace REHB 6100 in the Substance Abuse and Clinical Counseling program. o Rationale: This course is needed to meet Council on the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs standards and will allow students to meet the academic requirements for licensure. PHD in Rehabilitation Counseling and Administration Change: Name of course, REHB 7404, from “Seminar in Vocational Evaluation” to “Resource Development in Rehabilitation Counseling and Administration.” o Rationale: This course is needed to meet Council on the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs standards and to broaden Rev. 2-8-2012 2 the application of resource development to rehabilitation counseling and administration in general, not just vocational evaluation. Requiring Consent of Instructor for select courses Change: Nineteen (19) masters and doctoral courses in the Department of Rehabilitation Studies need to be listed as requiring Consent of Instructor. These courses include: 6310, 6501, 6521, 6522, 6523, 6550, 7000, 7001, 7601, 8210, 8380, 8410, 8531, 8532, 8533, 8550, 8810, 9000, and 9001. o Rationale: These select nineteen (19) courses are limited to majors only and are built upon prerequisites and course sequencing. These upper level courses have rigorous content and require a specific skill set. Faculty request limited course size due to the number of assignments. LG 9-14-09
