Justification (must cite accreditation and/or assessment by the graduate faculty) for new course or course revision or course renumbering: The graduate faculty of the Counselor Education program met and determined that COAD 6482 must be revised to be aligned with current accreditation (CACREP, 2009) and state licensing standards and professional language. Council for Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Programs [CACREP]. (2009). 2009 standards for accreditation. Alexandria, VA: Author. X 6. Course description exactly as it should appear in the next catalog: 6482. Supervised Counseling Practicum (3) Weekly on-campus group supervision and individual site supervision required. P: COAD 6400, 6404, 6409. Application of counseling skills and knowledge, including individual counseling and consultation, in clinical mental health, school or higher education setting. 7. If this is a course revision, briefly describe the requested change: The faculty are requesting that the course be renamed from Supervised Practice Counseling, to Supervised Counseling Practicum to be consistent with contemporary professional language and that the course description be revised to be consistent with expectations of the course, national accreditation standards and state licensure requirements. Additionally, changes to the program description are requested in order to broaden the scope of the course in order to bring it into alignment with CACREP accreditation standards and the NC LPC Board state licensure requirements. Finally, faculty members are requesting to change the prerequisites listed for this course, deleting the “All other courses in the counselor education sequence” prerequisite and instead setting the prerequisites as COAD 6400, 6404, and 6409. The faculty met and determined that allowing students to take the Supervised Counseling Practicum earlier in the program would provide increased opportunities to apply theory and philosophy in practical settings. COAD 6400 (the introductory course for the program), COAD 6404 (Theories of Counseling) and COAD 6409: Counseling Skills and Techniques provide students with a sufficient base of knowledge for successful engagement in COAD 6482: Supervised Counseling Practicum. Additionally, these prerequisites will allow for a standard rotation of courses, consolidating resources required for facilitation of the counselor education program. The faculty have approved the proposed revisions. 8. Course credit: Lecture Hours 3 3 Weekly OR Per Term Credit Hours Lab Weekly OR Per Term Credit Hours s.h.
