Student Evaluations Transcribing Co-Sponsors: 1415-0010 Prime Sponsor: Breton Recommendation President’s Signature Date Introduced: 10/06/2014 Date of Voting: Final Vote: Yea Sens Present Nay VP Senate Affairs Signature Abstain Whereas, at the end of each semester, students are required to complete evaluations for each of their respective professors, Whereas, evaluations provide students the ability to praise and or critique the professors’ effectiveness in teaching, Whereas, students expect to have their evaluations remain anonymous, Whereas, some evaluations require students to handwrite comments, Whereas, over the course of a semester, a professor has the ability to learn their students’ handwriting Whereas, not all evaluations and comments are transcribed before being handed to the respective professor, Whereas, some evaluations require a student to fill out their respective demographic information such as what their first language is, Whereas, despite the fact that grades are posted before student evaluations are handed to the professor, students may take more courses with a professor they evaluate It is resolved that, the Ithaca College Student Government Association formally recommends to the Interim Provost and Vice President of Educational Affairs, Linda Petrosino (Academic Policy Committee) that all student evaluations must be transcribed before a professor receives them, It is also resolved that, all demographic information be removed upon transcribing the student evaluations before a professor receives them.
