4-H Project Activities and
Exhibit Requirements
Project: Cake Decorating – COUNTY PROJECT ONLY
Suggested Ages: 13 to 19
Latest Starting Date: May 1
Recommended Project Activities:
Skill Levels 1, 2, 3 & 4
 Complete at least three different border designs from your project
book.
 Complete at least three different flowers from your project book.
 Complete at least two kinds of leaves from your project book.
 Frost and decorate 6 cakes.
 Give a talk or demonstration related to your project.
 Complete your Project Planning Sheet.
 Skill levels 2, 3 and 4 should keep a listing of additional work done
to the project.
Project Exhibit Requirements:
Exhibitors age 10 and older must fill out a 1 page 4-H Exhibit Report to
include with their exhibit. The 4-H Exhibit Report can be found on our
county website at
http://web.extension.uiuc.edu/sangamonmenard/4hyouth1157.html under
the printable forms section. If you do not have internet access you can
contact your 4-H leader, or call the Extension Office to receive a copy of the
report form.
THIS IS A COUNTY PROJECT – EXHIBITS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR STATE
FAIR.
Skill Level 1
Exhibit one round or square cake (single layer) using one border design
at the top and bottom of the cake. Decorate with a design using one type of
simple flower and one type of leaf. The design should include more than one
flower and leaf.
Skill Level 2
Exhibit a two-layer round or square cake using one border design at
the top and bottom of the cake. Decorate with a bouquet of three types of
flowers with appropriate stems and leaves.

Skill Level 3
Exhibit a cake of your choice decorated with a flower made on a flower
nail and the flower top (page 8 of the project book). Include in your decoration
a selection of border, writing and flower or flowers made on a flower nail with
appropriate stems and leaves.
Skill Level 4
Exhibit a character cake including 5 different tips, OR a wedding cake,
OR a tier cake.
