Tree Planting






Brandon and Shirley drive all over Mt Sterling and came up with over 100 locations.
Some of these locations would be good for hardwood trees and many of them for smaller
decorative trees.
Many of the hardwood trees will be auctioned this year and Shirley thought we might be able to
buy decent size hardwoods for under $50.00 a piece.
The people who own the trees are supposed to be at the tree farm this week and Brandon and
Shirley will visit with them and see if the trees will work. Should have a report early next week.
We will come up with several places for trees and plan on spending a total of $500 this year and
the city will match that amount.
We will pick a tree planting date after we here from Brandon and Shirley

Renee will ask about possibly doing another soup supper. At this time we would need to find
someone to do it. We did not have enough help for the first one getting everything ready and if
Connie and Brandon would not have worked a ton of hours it would not have happened.
Difficult to find people who do not work that can help with something like that. We will
concentrate on other types of find fundraisers for now
We did not discuss Welcome signs at tonight’s meeting

Brown County EDUCATION Action Team
Monday, Oct. 4, 2010
Notes
Mission Statement: Raising Expectations to Improve Education
2010 Goal: Teacher Morale/Retention
Co-Chairs: Kelly Grady/Daina Howell
Attendees: Kelly Grady, Jennifer Ingram, Daina Howell, Ben Ellefritz, Merle Kenady, Sue
Kenady, Erin McCaskill, Van Wilson, Chris Brierton, Mary Koch, Angela Salrin
PTO – Jennifer/Erin:
−
−
−
−
−
−
−
Jennifer and Erin came up with the mission statement, purpose and direction of the
PTO. They do not want to start too big and be unsuccessful. They also do not want the
PTO to compete against other activities and projects that already exist.
The PTO will be a subset of the BCEAT and will take over the teacher appreciation
activities and help with parental involvement. This group would be the “go to”
organization for teachers to get volunteers to help with activities and events. As the
group grows they would look at including other activities.
Parental involvement would include the parents supporting activities and events that are
already being done by teachers and the school district. Also, encouraging more
volunteering in the schools.
At this time they are not looking at involving the teachers in a professional capacity.
Teachers are welcome to attend and participate, but we do not want to pull the teachers
in too many directions by making this another thing they must commit to.
They want to start with activities that do not cost anything. If we form this group and
then start fundraising right away, it may turn people off on the idea.
Communication would be an area where the PTO could help. They could send out
communications/emails about activities at each school for the month to the community
for awareness and potential involvement.
There was discussion on what we should call this new group. Should it be called a
“PTO” or should it have another name. This group would be different from a traditional
PTO in that the teachers may not be as prevalent in the beginning due to our focus.
However, the group would be parents working with teachers. The name “PTO” is
recognizable.
−
−
−
The attendees of the meeting took a vote and overwhelmingly decided to call the group
a “PTO”.
The PTO will meet quarterly starting in January.
Emails will start being sent to teachers and parents/volunteers starting in November
about the organization, its purpose and focus.
