4. Justification for new course or course revision or renumbering:
This curriculum change is a part of a revision of the engineering program to
achieve several goals: 1) more closely align content with general engineering
programs; 2) adjust the timing and coverage of materials to support success in
the fundamentals of engineering exam; 3) adjust the sequence of science,
mathematics, and engineering courses to better integrate the content. These
changes have been developed and approved by the department faculty and
have been endorsed by the Engineering Advisory Board.

1012 Engineering Graphics (2) (S) 1 lecture and 2 lab hours per week. C: MATH 1083 or higher.
Engineering graphics in a professional engineering context including sketching and working drawings,
multiple views, sections, solid modeling software, drawing standards, tolerancing, and dimensioning.

ICEE 1012: Introduction to Engineering Graphics
Required Texts:
1. Introduction to Graphics Communications for Engineers, 3 rd edition, Bertoline, McGraw-Hill, 2006.
2. Introduction to Solid Modeling using SolidWorks 2006, Howard & Musto, McGraw-Hill, 2007.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, students shall be able to:
 Demonstrate knowledge of engineering graphics in the engineering design process
 Apply engineering graphics as a communications tool
 Describe how graphic models and other modern tools are used in the engineering design process
 Create part models with solid modeling software
 Create sketches, by hand and with CAD software, incorporating multiple views, auxiliary views, and sections views
 Create assembly models and assembly drawings with solid modeling software
 Apply standard dimensioning and tolerancing practices
 Demonstrate skills required to develop engineering working drawings

Topics covered in this course include:
 Engineering graphics in the engineering design process
 Engineering graphics as a technical communications tool
 Requirements of engineering working drawings and varying levels of detail
 Graphic models and other software tools applied in the engineering graphics and design process
 Techniques for hand sketches in engineering graphics
 CAD software, incorporating multiple views, auxiliary views, and sections views
 Modeling with solid modeling software
 Interface with rapid prototyping and digitizing equipment
 Assembly models, assembly drawings and applications to solid modeling software
 Standard dimensioning and tolerancing practices
 Dimensioning tools and applications in engineering graphics
