Job Description
General Description
The mission of our program is to provide science-based educational opportunities that connect people with nature and
help them become engaged environmental stewards. Our vision is to give individuals the opportunity to experience
nature, develop knowledge of and respect for the environment, and practice natural resource stewardship. The Master
Naturalist organization will assist Extension staff in providing local Master Naturalist activities and programs.
Specific Responsibilities
 Work with local staff to implement a program of excellence in the community and to jointly further the missions and
objectives of the University of Illinois Extension Master Naturalist Program.
 Comply with training, documentation, certification, and recertification requirements, as delineated in the Illinois
Master Naturalist Policies.
 Comply with all policies and procedures of Master Naturalist Policies.
 Provide non-biased, research-based information endorsed and sanctioned by University of Illinois Extension to the
general public, without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, disability or sexual orientation.
 Consistently exhibit courteous and professional behavior to Extension Unit staff, other volunteers and the public.
 Follow state and federal laws and regulations as well as the fiscal policies and guidelines of the local Extension Unit
and the University of Illinois.

Time required
To stay active, annually complete at least 30 hours of volunteer service, and 10 hours of continuing education.
Organizational Relationships
As a University of Illinois Extension sponsored program, the Master Naturalist will work closely with and seek approval
from the local Extension staff on issues related to conducting programs, establishing partnerships, initiating new
projects, etc.
