Peoria County 4-H Show
Assistant Jr. Superintendents & Directors
An application must be completed and returned to the Peoria County Extension office by May 2, 2011.
(Included in this mailing or available online at www.extension.uiuc.edu/peoria)
Jr. Superintendent and Show Acitivy Director selections shall be made by Extension staff. Appointments will be
for 1 year. 4-H Show Superintendent recommendations will be considered.




12 4-H’ers will be selected for Non-Livestock Project areas
10 4-H’ers will be selected for Livestock Project areas
3 4-H’ers will be selected as Jr. 4-H Show Activity Directors
All will be notified of their selection prior to the orientation / training session on June 7, 2011.

All youth selected for the Jr Superintendent or Jr Activity Director positions will be enrolled in the Leadership project.
EELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
 Entering at least 7th grade (age 12 & older)
 Willing to devote approx. 18 hours for the week (time may vary according to project area. (scheduling
will be flexible so as to accommodate youth with other fair happenings and project judgings)
 Enthusiastic
 Demonstrate responsibility
 Willing to take on a variety of responsibilities at the fair
 An interest to learn more about 4-H
 Willingness to communicate with fairgoers
*Must attend mandatory orientation / training session on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at the Extension office.
TASKS MAY INCLUDE:

JR. SUPERINTENDENT:
 Assist in Project Judging Process – Assist Superintendent with the evaluation process of projects.
 General Exhibit Barn Maintenance – Picking up litter and general barn clean up.
 4-H Public Relations – Youth need to be available and knowledgeable to answer the questions of
the exhibitors and public.

JR. 4-H SHOW DIRECTOR:
 Assist 4-H Extension staff with 4-H Show Activities and Public Relations
 General Maintenance - Picking up litter and general barn clean up
*There will be a $15 Honorarium for this leadership role*
$15 Honorarium consists of an $8.00 premium for the Leadership project and a special t-shirt (approx. $7 value).

LIVESTOCK & NON-LIVESTOCK PROJECT AREA(S)
Purpose of Position:
 To provide older 4-H youth with an opportunity to expand their leadership skills and gain a valuable
learning work experience.
General Description of Tasks & Responsibilities:
 Responsible for assisting Superitendent with set up of exhibt barn.
 Responsible for assisting Superintendent with the evaluation process of projects (attaching stickers &
ribbons, arranging project displays for public viewing, etc).
 Responsible for assisting Superintendent with project release and clean up of exhibit barn.
 Assist in general maintenance of project exhibt area (picking up litter and general cleaning).
 Make suggestions for fair changes to Superintendent and 4-H Extension staff.
 Make suggestions for project area workshops.
 4-H Public Relations – assist Superintendent in answering questions & promoting 4-H to the public.

& Abilities Required:
Public Speaking experience.
Knowledge of Peoria County 4-H.
Possess a pleasing personality and appearance.
Abiltity to work with large groups of youth.
Willing to receive direction from 4-H Superintendent & 4-H Extension staff.
Enthusiastic.
Eligibility Requirements:
 Must be entering at least 7th grade in the fall.
 Must be able to devote approx. 18 hours to the program (Time may vary according to project area scheduling will be flexible so as to accommodate youth and adults with other fair happenings and
project judgings).
