4-H Committee Meeting Minutes Date: 11/23/2009 7:00 pm Attending: Kate Harding, Rosie Huff, Veryl Reiher, Annette Cole, Kody Brown, Michelle Wolff, Meghan Wolff, Kim Barber Meeting Minutes Meeting was led by Kate Harding. Election of Officers Rosie Huff moved to table election of officers to a future meeting due to low attendance. Veryl Reiher seconded that motion. Macoupin County 4-H Record Review How to get more involvement in record judging: Every club must sent x number of people based on number of members. Will take a vote on this suggestion at next meeting. Yellow Sheets/Written Summaries: Rosie Huff moved to get rid of yellow sheets. Annette Cole seconded that motion. We will look to include a written summary on the Il member records form for an extra 2 point credit. We will follow up at the next meeting. Members can gather ideas from their clubs. Review of Achievement Night 2009 Input on Achievement Night: Too long Took drinks away too early Food was not good Play the slide show on repeat and just keep it playing while people are eating. Make pictures larger. Let the presentation run longer. Club pictures – can we take those ahead of time? The reservations were made on estimates and we had a number of no shows Look for another caterer – open it up for suggestions Total Expenses for this year: $3856.07 Rookie of the Year for 2010: suggestion was made that a sub-committee be formed to establish criteria. A vote can be made after that is established. 4-H Policies Policies were distributed and reviewed. Questions regarding new policies contact Paula. 2010 Macoupin County 4-H Fair dates State fair discrepancies in checks need to be in by 12/1. Fair dates are as follows: Public Presentation – 6/3, Mini Fair – 6/12, Foods Show – 6/25, Clothing Show – 7/12, County Fair Week – 7/19 thru 7/23, General Show – 7/19, Horse Show – 6/16 (rain date 7/1) Rosie Huff motioned to accept the fair dates. Annette Cole seconded that motion. Suggestion was made that clubs could use the extra space in the 4-H building to display International Night or Science Fair displays. 4-H Federation Report of Events: Tie Dye event was held at beginning of 4-H year. Weenie Roast was held at Lisa’s home last month. Though attendance was not large, both events were big hits. Next meeting is planned for 1/24/2010 at 2:30 at the extension office. Pork Cookout on the square will be held on 6/18/2010. Suggestion was made that the Federation look into organizing a fishing derby once again. Spring/Summer 2010 Programming Ideas Small Engines club will start up in January, 2010. Mock Trial will be in March, 2010 Michelle Wolff motioned that we hold International Night in April, 2010. Rosie Huff seconded that motion. Macoupin County will be investigating shooting sports: archery/riffle/hand guns. We are in need of someone to be the coordinator for each event. That would involve 3 days of training. If you know of anyone interested, contact Kate. The following ideas were raised for consideration for future workshop/special interest clubs: Woodworking Photography Presentation (i.e. power point) Sewing Foods Welding Electricity Announcements Annette Cole will be leaving the extension office. 12/11 is her last day. Paula is working to fill her position. Kate will be off the entire month of December, returning 1/7. Next meeting will be on 2/1/2010. Virginia Kuo will attend that meeting to discuss the special interest clubs.
