My name is____________ and I am a member of the _____________4-H Club. I currently serve on the McLean County 4-H Federation Board as __________. Tonight/Today I am here to talk to you about Teamwork and McLean County 4-H Federation. 10-15 minutes Ask: What is 4-H Federation? The McLean County 4-H Federation is a county wide 4-H group. The purpose of this group is to provide older 4-H members with a wider area of activities on the county level and beyond, meet new friends from across the county, develop leadership, and improve citizenship. Activity: The first thing we are going to do is a team work activity. One thing Federation focuses on is developing skills to work together and work well with other people. We have been focusing on team work all year. 5 minutes 10 –20 minutes At the beginning, we talked about What 4-H Federation is. I would like to share more about 4-H Federation and how Federation is involved on the county level. To be a member of the Federation Board. We go through a unique interview process. Applications and a leader reference are submitted to the Extension office and each applicant is offered an interview with a committee of local 4-H volunteers and past Board members. The applicants are then slated to an office and the slate is presented at the June Federation meeting and voted on. Federation has 12-14 offices on the Board. Slide 2 Unique Interview Process Group responds to questions Slide 3 next year. Both the outgoing and incoming Board members meet to plan the upcoming programs. We brainstorm ideas for programs, locations, community service, upcoming events, theme for the 4-H year…etc. This year the Board held a day-long orientation and focused on Teamwork. We participated in teamwork activities and did program planning. Goals for the 2003-2004 Year Review goals All Board members are active on the county level and work together. Each board member holds an office and officers coordinate a meeting each month. Board members meet for 30 minutes before each meeting to plan. All youth ages 12-18 are encouraged to attend. Each club should have two delegates per club who attend Federation meetings. These delegates are voting members of the group. Other members are welcome to attend, but only two may vote. Delegates are invited to help with a variety of county wide events and activities. Meetings are held once a month and are held at a variety of locations. Each month a program/activity is planned. Meetings are designed to have fun and get to know other people. Federation Program Managers coordinated meeting recreation each month. They also help with the planning of programs each month, which add interest to the meetings and help to get more 4-H members to attend. Each meeting also incorporates a program which could vary from a speaker to having a Easter Egg Hunt in the dark! All meetings are fun. This year our meeting schedule is: (Review schedule) Federation plans different fundraisers to keep programs going in McLean County. Each club member donates $2.00 per club member to Federation. Federation has sold Centennial Bears and is active with the 4-H Alumni with the Ice Cream Sundae Booth. These finances and donations help support the University of Illinois Extension and other programs in support of 4-H. Federation Sponsors and coordinates several events in the county. 4-H Federation Board members are responsible to help promote 4-H to other youth in the county and get them involved. Federation sponsors several types of county events Recognition Events Fair Activities County Community Service Projects Workshops 4-H Federation sponsors the 4-H Leaders Banquet which honors all of the leaders who have served in a leadership role in the county for 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, etc. years. We plan and organize the whole event, serve as MC’s, get door prizes, choose the theme, etc. 4-H Federation also sponsored the 4-H Recognition of Excellence Banquet. We helped in organizing the theme, writing the script, building the backdrop for the evening and recognizing youth for their accomplishments in 4-H. Federation is very involved in the fair! There are many projects that we coordinate including: Flag Raising and Lowering Teen Dance 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament Ice Cream Sundae Booth Federation Installation of Officers Decorate the Stage Community Service is coordinated on the county level as well by Federation. Federation sponsors and encourages clubs to participate in the following county wide community service activities: 4-H Canned Food Drive 4-H Food Pantry Scavenger Hunt Adopt A Family (Federation only) Older 4-H members are encouraged to get involved on the county level to meet the Standards of Excellence.
