to hold harmless Lake Thunderbird, the Extension Office, SWCD, and 4-H Volunteers from any claims resulting from accident or
injury resulting in my child’s participation at Conservation Camp. For the duration of this 4-H year, I grant the 4-H Youth Program,
University of Illinois Extension, the permission to disclose my (or my child’s) identity and to reproduce and distribute videotapes,

Class Descriptions
A. Fishing 101— Spend time fishing with Frank Hyla.

B. Fishing 202 - This is a double session, limited to 10 participants.
You will learn about preparing your fishing pole, water safety and fish conservation.
Then spend time fishing. Poles and supplies provided.
C. Teambuilding – Take advantage of the wide open spaces and join in the fun of some
teambuilding games. 4-H Federation members will challenge participants and lead
them through a variety of fun activities.
D. Stream Walk I –You will get your feet wet as you walk through the stream with Yona
Lunkin & Dennis Sparr. Bring an extra pair of old lace type shoes to wear while
walking through the stream. The shoes need to stay on your feet while walking in
water and mud.
E. Stream Walk II – This is a double session. Get up close to the wildlife in and around
the stream at Lake Thunderbird. You will get your feet wet as you walk through the
stream with Yona Lunkin & Dennis Sparr. Bring an extra pair of old lace type shoes
to wear. The shoes need to stay on your feet while walking in water and mud.
F. Air Rifle – 4-H Shooting Sports and Pheasants Forever will present firearm safety
and shooting skills to youth. Using hand pump air rifles, participants will shoot
targets in the Pheasants Forever trailer.
G. H2O Science Experiments – Put your carbon footprint to the test as you explore the
effect of C2 on natural water sources and the aquatic eco-system. Grow your own
algae, and observe the affects of excess carbon dioxide on different water sources.
H. CSI – Crime Scene Investigation - Do you like a good mystery? Come check out the
crime scene and try your hand at solving the mystery. Just like a private
investigator, you will be told about a crime and have to look for clues to help solve
the case. Be prepared to listen as we don’t want the case to go COLD!
I. Rock Hound Adventure- Have you started a rock collection? Is your rock collection
on display? We will look at a variety of minerals, rocks, and fossils and discover how
to identify and label them. Bring your favorite samples to discuss or a mystery rock
to stump the geologist.
J. GPS – Members of a local Geo Caching group will lead participants on a GPS
adventure using hand held GPS units. Build your techie skills, stretch your
adventurous side and explore nature.
