DAY OF DABBLING Saturday, February 26, 2011 The 2011 Day of Dabbling is Saturday, February 26th from 9 a.m. to noon at the Byron Forest Preserve Jarrett Prairie Center, south of Byron on River Road. A day of hands-on learning and fun, Day of Dabbling will have you DOING, THINKING, and CREATING! Bring a pencil, paper, the items indicated for the workshops you have signed up for, and LOTS of energy! .. AND get ready to dabble. You don't have to be in any particular project area to attend. In fact, you don't even have to be in 4-H! REGISTRATION DEADLINE: February 22, 4:30 p.m. It is very important that you have three choices selected when registering for classes either by phone or on the form. A registration fee of $10 per person will be taken at the door to help cover the cost of materials. Additional fees are required for some workshops. Refer to the class descriptions for details. Come and learn to make a necklace and a bracelet using glass beads. Note: An additional fee of $1 is required for this class to cover the cost of materials. Kids N Clay Size: 5/20 Instructors: Megan Richter, Leaf River Description: All Ages. Participants will learn clay techniques in this session, such as coiling, and pinch pots. Participants will get to make their own pottery piece to take home! Note: An additional fee of $2 is required for this class to cover the cost of materials. Instructables! Size: 5/15 Instructors: Dorene Shores, Freeport Description: All ages. This exciting class will give participants a chance to build light up throwers, glow sticks, and egg flashlights, using household items! Note: An additional fee of $2 is required for this class to cover the cost of materials. Cooking 101 Size: 5/10 Instructor: Dawn Bolhous, Leaf River Description: Ages 8-12. You will learn how to measure dry ingredients, crack eggs, and bake some yummy chocolate chip cookies to take home! Note: An additional fee of $2 is required for this class to cover the cost of materials. Feeding The Herd Size: 5/20 Instructors: Jody & Lesley Diehl & Lizzi Stauffer, Polo Description: All ages. Come and learn the FEED importance of what we feed our livestock and the nutritional value of feed. We will make a feed sack with human food to represent a feed sack for livestock. An additional fee of $2 is required for this class to cover the cost of materials. Jewelry Box Bling Size: 6/12 Instructor: Dawn Bolhous, Leaf River Description: All Ages. Do you have jewelry lying around? Then you need a jewelry box! In this class, you will design your own jewelry box using paints, flowers, jewels, and ribbon. Note: An additional fee of $2 is required for this class to cover the cost of materials. Soil Sensation Size: 5/15 Instructor: Melinda Charbonneau, University of Illinois Extension Description: All ages. Participants will investigate the components that make up dirt. They will receive “hands-on” experience learning about the different layers of soil, make a tasty treat, and bring home a “Grow Your Name” project to remember the day by. Horsen’ Around Size: 5/20 Instructors: Megan Richter, Leaf River Description: Ages 5-8. Learn the basic parts of horses with a fun matching game. Participants will also be able to make their own stick horse to ride and take home! So You Think You Can Cook? Size: 5/15 Instructors: Vickie Smith, Cassie Smith, and Thelma Meeks, Forreston Description: All Ages. This workshop will give you the tips and tricks you need to prepare for showing the prize winning bread at this year’s 4-H fair! Learn what to expect and what the judges will be looking for so you can bake prize winning exhibits. Samples of food will be provided! Following the Technology Trail Size: 4/20 Instructors: Jodi Baumgartner, University of Illinois Extension and Jessie Sweeney, Monroe Center Description: Ages 8-12. Using basic GPS skills, students will track down clues to solve a puzzle during a race against the clock. PLEASE DRESS APPROPRIATLY FOR THE WEATHER! We will be outside for this class. Creative Candle Making Size: 5/15 Instructor: Kera Baumgartner, Lena Description: Ages 8-12 years. Create your own ice cube candles and let your creativity shine! Candles are always a great gift and you’ll get plenty of ideas on how to continue this hobby at home. Size: 6/12 Instructor: Dawn Bolhous, Leaf River Description: All Ages. Design your photo frame using paint, flowers, butterflies, or yo yo’s! Note: An additional fee of $2 is required for this class to cover the cost of materials. Dance Dance Revolution Size: 3/12 Instructors: Katie Baker, Oregon Description: All Ages. Dance Dance Revolution is a fun and healthy game that participants can come and play. Being active is an important part of your lifestyle. Be prepared to get up and dance! Home Tweet Home Size: 5/15 Instructor: Stan Eden, Oregon Description: Ages 8-12 years old. Build a bird house for your backyard! Enhance the lives of the feathered friends living around you. Bring: a hammer Note: An additional fee of $4 is required for this class to cover the cost of materials. Moo Masks Size: 5/20 Instructors: Megan Wolfe, Oregon Description: Ages 5-8 years. This exciting class will allow Cloverbuds to make their very own Moo Mask! While making their mask, participants will also learn about dairy cattle, and how milk goes from the farm to the store!
