 Basic Car Maintenance – Presenter: Rocky Temple
Everyone needs to know how to change a tire and check
the fluids on a car or truck. This is a workshop you won’t
want to miss if you drive anything: car, truck, tractor, or
ATV. Automotive maintenance is essential. Please bring
your jacket as you will be outside for this workshop.
 SpeedMeeting!! – Presenter: Illinois State 4-H Youth
Leadership Team
As we get older, one of the great things that we
remember from our past are the friends that we made –
especially those made at events like NILC! How do we
meet new people? Have you ever found starting
conversations with strangers to be awkward or
uncomfortable? Start making those new friends in this
workshop – SpeedMeeting will teach you how to relax,
start conversations and enjoy yourself as you meet new
and exciting people. By the end of this workshop you’ll
have met a roomful of 4-H’ers and discovered what you
have in common!
 First Impressions – Presenter: Liz Brockmann, M.P.H.
You only get one chance to make a good first impression.
You’ll learn the five S's of meeting and greeting others
and how to have a success job interview.
 Facing the Challenge – Presenter: Johnna Jennings,
Unit Educator, 4-H Youth Development
Challenges are all around us every day, but what if you
had a disability or obtained one later in life? What
challenges would you face with your disability? In this
session participants will learn through hands-on activities
about some of the challenges individuals with disabilities
deal with on a daily basis.
 Woodworking – Presenter: Brian Rawson
Receive information and tips from a professional in the
industry.
 News Writing and Media – Presenter: Mike Doyle
Receive information and tips from a professional in the
industry.
 Breaking the Code: The Reality of Bullying –
Presenter: Ancilla Parducci, Ph.D., Youth
Development Educator
Breaking the Code is simulation that provides students
with an understanding of how bullying effects students.
The workshop will have students’ role playing several
characters in bullying situations. The participants will
either witness or be involved in bullying. Following the
role play, there will be a discussion focusing on the impact
of the characters and the role they play in bullying.
 Blast Through the Past with TEAMWORK!
Have you had trouble in the past trying to get a group of
people working together? Anything is possible when you
can get the group thinking and working together!! Build
your personal skills and learn to develop your own team
for the future. Through active team-building activities,
participants will increase their awareness of others’, build
trust, and improve their own skills. Comfortable clothing
a must! Closed toe shoes are required (athletic shoes
would be best). No sandals, flip-flops, or bare feet!

 Creative Digital Photography – Presenters: Paul
Zeien and Ron Ramos
This workshop will introduce the participants to the world
of digital photography. Topics will include photography
history, camera operations, choosing a subject matter,
how to market your photography, and picture
composition. Please bring your digital camera. Max of
15 participants.
 Public Speaking – It doesn’t hurt a bit! – Presenter:
Dawn Carlson
During this workshop we will examine the basics of public
speaking, and how to grow more confident in speaking in
front of groups. Through small group activities, we will
overcome our nervousness, and learn the art of the
“Attention Getter!” Please bring a notebook and
pen/pencil.
 Cries for Help! – Presenter: Susan Shanks, BSE,MDiv.
If you broke your leg or came down with pneumonia, you
wouldn't let it go untreated. However, young people often
ignore mental health problems thinking they will "snap out
of it," or that they are something to be ashamed of. This
kind of thinking prevents people from getting the help
they need. Sometimes getting help is a matter of
changing your mind. Come discover how you can become
a better leader by learning how to recognize when you
or someone you care about may need help.
 Needle Felting w/ Wool – Presenter: Elodie Zeien
Learn how to paint with wool. Create a handmade
picture using needle felting. It is fun and easy. All you
need is your imagination to do this project. No artistic
skills required. Come and discover all the possibilities
that can be done with needle felting. Maximum – 15
participants.
 Interior Design – Presenters: Cindy Harris & Cassie
Lein
This workshop will include making a picture frame and
learning about what is expected when you take the
Interior Design Project in 4-H. Come see what you can
learn about decorating on a budget and discover new
ideas on how to redecorate your room or home.

 Oh…What a Bean: Soybean – Presenter: Larry
Reinhard, McHenry County Farm Bureau
Activities will include hands-on experience with
germination to profile the soybean life cycle, Coca and
NesQuick contest, soymilk and surface tension exploration,
and much more.
 Computers in Today’s Agriculture – Presenter: Tim
Shanks
Learn how computers are used to operate tractors and
increase productivity in today’s economy. Please bring
your jacket as you will be outside.
 Keeping Warm w/ Fleece - Presenters: Robin
Kindberg, Deanna Harman, Nicole Zeien, and Donna
Manring
Learn how to create a fleece blanket that will keep you
warm for the next decade. You will need to bring 2
pieces of 1-yard each of fleece and fabric scissors (A
few pairs of scissors will be available for use.)
 Cat & Dog First Aid – Presenter: Dr. Dan Lendman,
DVM
Would you know what to do if you were hiking with your
dog and she cut one of her pads on a sharp object?
Would you know what to do if your cat cut himself while
playing? These are just a couple of the situations Dr.
Lendman will teach you how to be prepared for.
 Soap Making – Presenters: Cassie Lein & Cindy
Harris
Want to make your own soap? Check out this workshop
to make a bar of soap that you can take home. You will
be melting down glycerin into your favorite shapes and
then adding your favorite smell and color. It’s like
inventing your own perfume only better because you'll
smell good and be clean! The cost of this workshop is
$5 dollars in addition to the conference registration fee.
 Advanced Photography – Portrait Emphasis –
Presenters: Paul Zeien, Ron Ramos, & Curtis Clegg
This workshop will concentrate on taking portraits: how to
stage the model, usage of lighting, and backdrops. We
will also be discussing post processing for photo
retouching. Each student will have a chance to orchestrate
a photo shoot session using another student as a model.
The portraits will be critiqued by the instructors and
students and displayed on BooneCountySports.com.
Students should bring their digital camera and props of
their choice to add to the portrait experience. All
students must be willing to have portrait taken and
critique given on their work. Max of 15 participants.
 Out of the Box Scrapbooking…Blast Through YOUR
Past – Presenter: Melissa Irwin
Scrapbooks can come in all kinds of shapes and sizes. In
this workshop you will make a non-traditional scrapbook
which will feature you. We will be using a combination of
traditional & non-traditional scrapbooking supplies to tell
the story of your life. We will be making a variety of
pages which will feature you and your family. Please
bring your own DOUBLE SIDED tape, scissors, and a
collection of pictures. The cost of this workshop is $5
dollars in addition to the conference registration fee.
Max of 20 participants.
 Martial Arts – Presenter: Rick Bjorquist
Learn hands-on techniques for Personal Self Defense,
Internet Safety, and take a mini-lesson on respect,
courtesy, and confidence.
 Enhancing Personal Effectiveness Through Colors –
Presenter: TBA
Learn how colors express your personality and
understanding of yourself and others. Through Real
Colors®, you'll gain a completely new perspective on
yourself and the things that are most important to you. As
you learn more about the Colors, you'll instinctively
recognize characteristics of people you know, and their
Color.
 Leadership for the Future – Presenter: Keith “Doc”
Patterson
The traits of Leadership are in each of us, Go For It! Learn
how to unlock the leadership skills you already possess.
 Disability Awareness – Presenter: Jen Jacky, RAMP
Boone County Manager
RAMP presents a program which educates individuals of all
ages regarding the acceptance of their peers and develops
in them a true desire to see one another succeed. RAMP's
program takes disability awareness to the classroom and
educates students with interactive exercises to: build
disability awareness through active learning experiences,
promote acceptance of people with disabilities in all aspects
of community life, and facilitate community partnerships. The
exercises and lesson plans are age specific and seek to
challenge myths and misconceptions about people with
disabilities and promote awareness of various forms of
disabilities and can be tailored to fit the needs of any
classroom or school.
