Course Description: We will cover the following topics:
Chapter 2: Equations, Inequalities, and Problem Solving
Chapter 3: Polynomials
Chapter 4: Rational Expressions
Chapter 5: Exponents and Radicals
Chapter 6: Quadratic Equations and Inequalities
Chapter 7: Linear Equations and Inequalities in Two Variables
Chapter 8: Conic sections
Chapter 9: Functions
Chapter 10: Systems of equations
Chapter 11: Exponential and logarithmic functions
Student Learning Outcomes:
Write and solve absolute-value linear equations and inequalities.
Use and interpret function notations in both algebraic and graphical contexts.
Graph and analyze a two-variable equation in the Cartesian coordinate plane using
the method of transformations.
Write and analyze quadratic models.
Solve a system of three linear equations.
Analyze and solve exponential or logarithmic equations.
Grades:
1- We will have a test and a quiz on each chapter. A test will have a value of 100 points and a
quiz 50 points. The lowest grade of the tests and quizzes will be dropped. There will be no makeup tests or quizzes.
2- We will have a comprehensive final test of 200 points. There are no make-ups for the final
and the final may not be dropped.
Tests and quizzes will be announced in class in advance.
Homework:
Homework will be assigned on a regular basis. See attached sheet. We will work on some
homework in class. The rest is to be completed outside of class. Questions on the homework will
be answered in the class.
Attendance:
Students are expected to attend all class meetings. Students are responsible for dropping a class
they no longer attend; failure to do so may result in a grade of F.

80% to 89%
B
70% to 79%
C
60% to 69%
D
Below 60%
F
Tutoring:
Drop-in tutoring is available at the Math Center located in the basement
of the Campus Center and in the Math Lab located in the Library Learning Center.
