1. C-ID # (Course Identification Numbering System): tied to TMC degrees
aka: ADT, AAT, AST degrees. It is another avenue to use to confirm
course equivalency. For major prep, please check the articulation
agreement with the 4 year institutions and LAMC. CID can be used to
confirm the course equivalency for the AAT/AST degree requirements as
well as for our terminal degrees and certificates. When a community
college course has a C-ID designation, that course can be used in place of
any other community college course that has that same C-ID designation
for the purpose of fulfilling associate degree major requirements. How to
find a C-ID #?
a. Go to assist.org and select Los Angeles Mission College
b. Click on C-ID Search & reports
c. Example: select Acct
 Basically this tells you (see below) that ACCT 110 (across the state) is our ACCTG 1
2. SOC AAT: catalog information is not mirroring TMC model (state approved). Use
forms we have for AAT degrees or TMC model. A&R are aware of discrepancy
a. Liberal Arts – degrees with emphasis also have a discrepancy on advising sheet
not being the same in the catalog. Michong will create a new form to combine the
1
catalog and Liberal Arts advising sheet information. For graduation petitions use
advising sheets emailed by Michong.
3. FSM 106: no equivalent identifier. For now Marketing 22 or Culinary Arts 110 can be
used. Will need to use Academic Exceptions form to forward to committee. Mark
waive/replace. Remember student must have 12 units here and attach supporting
documentation. FSM classes are all archived. Some students have catalog rights to FSM
degree.
4. Course Placement Process: Students are coming to Counseling with all three pages
(white/pink/yellow) to clear. Students should not bring these forms to Counseling, please
work it out in your respective offices as to who will drop the white and pink sheets off in
the Counseling Office so that S091 can be cleared; otherwise students will be swept.
a. Give student only the yellow copy.
b. It’s okay to give white to Linda but send the pink slip to Counseling.
c. If the student can’t register, could use the yellow slip to show A&R course has
been cleared or to show Counseling to get a duplicate.
d. Okay to clear as many prerequisites when you see a student even if they are not
taking it for the next semester
e. Remember to fill out form completely and attach supporting documentations
f. Need official transcripts to clear a prerequisite
g. If student is in progress at another campus outside LACCD, it’s counselor’s
responsibility to follow-up with the student if you provide them with a
prerequisite clearance. Do not forward to counseling until it has been resolved.
h. Mark “Place other” on SARS to clear the “A” for AOC purpose
5. External exams: how to apply AP credit, CLEP, IB
a. CLEP only used for CSU not IGETC; refer to the catalog
b. Catalog tells you how to use credit for Foreign transcripts; has to be approved by
Ministry of Education. Please refer to page 48 in the 15-16 College Catalog for
more information.
6. Regional Accreditation required when evaluating transcripts; independent and
professional accreditation are not accepted (refer to handout for Regional Accreditation)
a. During a transcript evaluation, when in doubt, check content; if content is not
equally aligned, initiate an Academic Exceptions (AE) petition; give your rational
why AE, attach supporting documents.
7. Updates:
 Fall 2016: only one GE pattern for Associates Degrees
2



Academic Renewal Policy Change: can now renew up to 30 units; this change is
not in the catalog nor on the Academic Renewal form; A&R needs to update the
form
President wants C-SEP to increase
1. Update S251 on DEC (remember to press Enter twice when updating)
S251 must match C-SEP;
2. Majors beginning with 99 are not Financial Aid approved---- counselors
can select a different major closest to what student is pursuing or scroll to
look for another major code
3. General Counseling not using DEC S255 – General Counseling student
contact updates going through SARS; other departments can let Michong
know if they want to also use SARS to update 3SP contacts instead of
DEC.
C-SEP Friday & Saturday: in general counseling all day Friday’s and at Student
Success Center on Saturday’s 9am – 12pm; possibly starting Saturday, December
5th will be working out of Student Success Center; student success center will
open 11/23/15 (will be doing assessment, in-person or online orientation, A-SEP,
C-SEP all in one area)
1. Comprehensive SEP should list all courses needed to meet ed goal
2. If C-SEP is completed, and student is undecided on major but knows
wants to transfer, can use CSU or IGETC as a major; for financial aid Ext,
IGETC/CSU will not work
3. Do not write Area B1, B2 etc, must list specific course
4. Counseling is booking 1 hours appt for C-SEP
5. For Financial Aid find the closest major code to your selection or the
major that best fits the student’s request. Please note, majors beginning
with 99….are ineligible for Fin Aid.
3
6. The Program of Study/Educational Goal Update Form does not need to be
completed if the major and educational goal match on the C-SEP; if no
SEP is completed and the student is only changing the educational goal
and/or major then you must complete the form to keep on file.
7. Grad petition deadline extended to November 30th.
8. Undecided students refer to Career Workshops and the online career
resource center and recommend Counseling courses for Spring 2016.
