LEARNING PLAN
Language and
Literacy
I.
Activity Information
a.
Children will be making name tags with a drawing of their choosing t o tape o r
glue on the back of their name tag. The name tags will be mounted and displayed for viewing.
b.
Language and Literacy
c.
Activity will take place on March 10th or 17th at 10 am during activity time. It will be
located in the classroom at a table with four or five chairs near the circle time center.
II.
Children Involved
a.
The children will be 4 and 5 years old.
b.
Children will participate in a small group of 4 or 5 children.
III.
Primary Learning Outcome
a.
The children will get more familiar with the letters that are in their name and compare
with their friends what letters they have similar to their names. Also, they will
discover the vowels and consonants in their name.
IV.
Goals and Objectives
a.
Social Development:
1. All of the children will take turns using the materials.
2. Most of the children will talk about what they are drawing is about and why
they chose that specific drawing to go along with their name.
b.
Emotional Development:
1. All of the children will feel a sense of pride and accomplishment after
finishing their name tag.
2. Most of the children will have a higher self-esteem when receiving positive
feedback on their work.
3. Some of the children will have a sense of joy while creating their drawings.
c.
Cognitive/Language Development:
1. Some of the children will discover the different type of letters in their name,
like vowels and consonants.
2. All of the children will use their language and literacy skills for this activity,
it
will reinforce what they already know.
d.
Physical Development:
1. All of the children will use their fine motor skills to draw, color, cut and
write.
2. Most of the children will use eye-hand coordination when coloring and
staying inside the lines of their drawing.
e.
Creative Expression:
1. Most of the children will draw from their imagination and use many colors.
2. Some of the children will explain their drawing with verbal and non-verbal
self-expression.
f.
Provision for Individual Differences
1. Some of the children will need help with their drawing idea.
2. A few of the children will need help with writing their name.
V.
Materials and Preparation
a.
The materials required are: Plain white paper, different colors of construction paper,
crayons, color pencils, markers, tape, glue and scissors.
b.
The space required is a small table with four or five chairs.
c.
Set-up: Each space will have a piece of white paper, construction paper, color pencils,
crayons and markers. The glue, tape and scissors will be at the center of the table for when
they are needed.
VI.
Procedures
a.
As the children take in all of the materials on the table I will introduce the activity. I
will ask them questions about their name and what sort of things do they enjoy drawing and
coloring.
b.
As the children begin the activity I will ask them to look for the vowels and consonants
in their name. If the children need assistance with witting their name I shall assist them until
they got it, they will underline or color the vowels and consonants a specific color to
distinguish them.
c.
Discussion/Questions will consist of distinguishing between the different letters of the
alphabet as well and the two types of letters there are. I will ask the children about what it is
they are drawing and why.
d.
Closure: When the children have completed their name tag I will ask the children to
hand me their activity so then they can move on to another center while I display their
nametags on a wall.
e.
Clean-up: The children will help put away all the materials in their designated areas
throw away any clippings and materials that belong in the trash. The children will then push
their chairs in before moving to another center.
