Recreation and Leisure Studies: Live Well RCLS educates tomorrow's leaders in parks, recreation, tourism, and recreational therapy as well as provides scholarship and leadership to the region, state, and nation. July 2014 Dear RT/TR Agency: We’d like the opportunity to introduce you to the Recreational Therapy Program at East Carolina University. We enroll approximately 140 undergraduate and 10 graduate students each year. Our graduates consistently score above the national average in terms of mean scores and passing rates on the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCRTC) exam. Our faculty includes eight certified and licensed recreational therapists, all of whom have practical experience in the profession. At this time we are looking to expand the number of internship sites available to our students and would like to determine your interest in hosting an intern from East Carolina University. Students enroll in the internship program after completing all formal coursework required for their degree. We have an Internship Site Approval process that a) allows our students the opportunity to learn about your agency prior to selection/placement, and b) establishes a formal affiliation agreement between your agency and East Carolina University. This process must be completed prior to intern placement, and includes a review by an ECU attorney. Included in this packet you will find two documents: I. Agency Application. This form provides students with basic information about your agency and its programs. It also assures students that the experience will meet both national certification and state licensure requirements, thereby making them eligible to sit for the national exam. II. Affiliation Agreement. This document is a draft contract between your agency and East Carolina University; all agencies must have a formal affiliation agreement with ECU prior to receiving an intern. We anticipate that agencies may request slight changes in language; in the event of any suggested changes, the affiliation agreement will go to, and be approved by, an ECU attorney prior to finalization. When both of these documents are finalized, we can list your agency as an approved site for our RT students to consider for an internship. Approvals expire THREE years after the finalization of this process. For more information regarding the East Carolina University Recreational Therapy Program, visit our website at http://www.ecu.edu/rcls. The form may be downloaded from the website. If you have questions regarding the Agency Application Form or Affiliation Agreement, please contact the ECU RT Internship Coordinator at (252) 737-2280, 252-328-4640, or mailto:riedlr@ecu.edu. We thank you for your time and hope you will consider hosting an RT intern from East Carolina University.
