Spanish Club Constitution Article I The name of this organization shall be “La Asociacion Espanol,” but commonly known as “El Club Espanol.” Article II The purpose of this organization is to provide opportunities for students to familiarize themselves with and experience the Spanish language and culture. Article III Section 1. There shall be two types of members: active members, and honorary members. Section 2. The active members shall b e students of Houghton College. Section 3. The honorary members shall be Spanish professors or individuals particularly interested in the language, even though they are not attending school (i.e. community members). Article IV In order to become a member, students should register at the annual Activities Fair or any Spanish Club activity/meeting. Otherwise, they should contact a cabinet member or the club’s adviser. Article V The officers of the Spanish Club are to be a president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, and a chaplain (optional). The same person may hold the secretary and treasurer positions. Each year’s cabinet will determine the duties of the positions. Article VI The election of club officers will take place one a year in the spring, after mid-semester exams, no more than one week following SGA elections. Election will be by nomination and a majority vote. Clause 1: If no one is nominated, then the cabinet may begin looking for appointees. The incoming officers shall be inaugurated before the termination of the academic year, for the new year. Article VII Section 1. Meetings shall be held as necessary. Planning for activities and other business may be held at a separate time as the planned activities. Section 2. Fundraisers are optional. Article VIII This constitution may be amended when two-thirds of the club’s members deem it necessary.
