The Washington, DC Experience “Considering that I am thinking of moving here (DC) after college, I have greatly valued the experience. The internship I got also helped me realize what I would like to do upon graduation.” “My internship that I secured was one of the greatest experiences I had ever had. Working Monday through Thursday was great, and I loved having three-day weekends to explore the city and take class trips… my good experience directly reflects the people in the program. We got along very well and became a small family. “I have been able to … network with people in the Hill; I am very thankful for my internship. I applied for this program because I wanted field experience and I’ve received that and more…the program exceeded my expectations.” “I was able to meet many different types of people, everywhere from living situation to my job which I found on the side. The city is so rich with culture: it is close to impossible not to find something you can relate to. I truly enjoyed my entire time in DC, and I couldn’t find one negative thing to say. If anyone asked if they should participate in the DC program, I would truly recommend it.” “I came here (DC) wanting to figure out a few things: whether or not I wanted to be in politics as a career, and whether I wanted to be in DC in the long run.I love politics, I also know that I love my job (internship) and I would certainly not mind doing something like this for the rest of my life. I can see that the things we do are making a difference – affecting legislation, impacting the way people think about policy – and I would like to do something where I can see my work impacting people in my life.” “When I applied for the Washington, DC Program I had one objective, to find a bit of direction. After the weekend I attended the NGO and sustainability mini course (in DC) and there it was, finally, after all this soul searching, profession dabbling, major switching, I found myself really excited about the possibilities of making a living while helping the world be a better place. Using all the business, marketing, legal skills I have to help emerging economies, indigenous entrepreneurs, and educational initiatives in third world countries.” "My internship at MSNBC was one of the greatest times of my life. I got to truly immerse myself in political journalism, as well as the culture and history of Washington D.C. It's one of the most wonderful cities in the world and I feel so lucky to have lived and worked there. I interviewed senators, actors, presidential candidates, and other journalists. It made me realize that I want to do this the rest of my life!” “My summer in Washington, DC sparked a political flame within me that I never knew existed. I left my experience with Senator Clinton’s office with a new appreciation for what every good government official sets out to do when he or she wakes up in the morning. I left with a new understanding of the complicated legislative system, the importance of reaching compromise among many diverse interests, and a passion for participating in the political system.” "DC allowed me to explore my career interests, as well as learn about the history that surrounds the city. I am truly grateful for this experience, because it not only strengthened my interest in Health Policy. I also was given a job!"
