The following should be noted regarding the Application Process and Decisions:
Our intention is to accept students who demonstrate the greatest likelihood of success.
Decisions are based primarily on the student’s performance in collegiate level work and
the required essay which must be appropriate and written at a collegiate level to be
considered for admission.
Other factors that may be considered in the decision include (but are not limited to)
number of prerequisite courses completed at the time of application, courses taken,
pattern and trend of grades, institutions attended, co-curricular activities, contribution to
the diversity of the student body, as well as career or work related experience.
The process is competitive and not all students who apply will be admitted.
While applicants must have at least a 2.25 combined cumulative grade point average to
be considered, the combined cumulative grade point average of applicants who have
been accepted in recent semesters has been 3.0.
Students not accepted by the School will not be allowed to register for 300-level business
courses.
Within 45 days of the application deadline, you will be notified of the decision by letter
via US Mail. Remember to check your mail at the address you provide on your
application. We may e-mail you if we have questions, so please regularly check the email account which you provide on your application.
Entry to the School of Business is selective. Applicants who exhibit the highest
potential of academic success are admitted. Increasingly, we have experienced strong
applicant pools and the process can be competitive. Please adhere to all application
procedures.

A generous business education foundation is accepting scholarship applications from students who are completing
a business degree. As a part of the scholarship application students are required to reflect on their major choice
and discuss in writing their interests in their major and their progress as a student. Your task is to write the essay
to accompany the Scholarship application. Because the Scholarship Committee is very busy, your essay must be
complete enough to convince them that you are a worthy recipient of the Scholarship in no more than 750 words.
All essays are required to address at least the following:
1) Explain your interest in the major you selected. You may describe a related experience you’ve had to that
area of study and/or your future career goals;
2) Discuss the qualities which you believe are necessary to be successful in the major you have selected; and
3) Discuss your biggest weaknesses as a student and indicate how you plan to address or overcome those
weaknesses as you pursue your selected major.
Optional Essay: Respond to the following question if you would like the admission committee to
have additional information about your personal qualities and life experiences. In 750 words or
fewer, please answer the following:
What unique personal qualities or life experiences might distinguish you from other applicants? How will
this enhance your experience and that of other students in the SIUE School of Business?
