Goals: GOAL 1: GOAL 2: GOAL 3: Promote, support, conduct, and increase research on health disparities using integrated, multi-disciplinary approaches. Build community partnerships and new programs to raise awareness about health disparities and promote healthy lifestyles. Play a leadership role in creating and sustaining partnerships with underserved and rural communities to reduce health disparities. Outcome Objective: Increase the number of faculty pilot studies on health disparities (baseline data to be collected in Year1.) Establish and enhance a framework to support interdisciplinary research on health disparities. Measure(s): Develop a program to fund faculty pilot-studies on health disparities; assess the number of applications received and funded. Assess the number of faculty hired or appointed to the center to conduct health disparities research. Assess the number of publications on health disparities by center faculty (baseline data to be collected. Assess the number of grant applications for disparities research by center faculty (baseline data to be collected.) Goal 2: Build community partnerships and new programs to raise awareness about health disparities and promote healthy lifestyles. Outcome Objective: Increase access to information and resources about health disparities and healthy lifestyles. Measure(s): Develop an interdisciplinary lecture series on health disparities; assess faculty and community attendance. Outcome Objective: Create mentoring programs for minority medical and dental students to enhance retention. Measure(s): Assess the number of faculty and community members hired or appointed to the center to engage in educational and training activities. Measure(s): Assess the number of grant applications by center faculty for mentoring, healthy community lifestyles, and/or pipeline programs (baseline data to be collected.) Goal 3: Play a leadership role in creating and sustaining partnerships with underserved and rural communities to reduce health disparities. Outcome Objective: Build new partnerships between ECU faculty and community organizations. Build new partnerships with minority medical associations, physician and nursing groups. Build new partnerships and collaborations with minority-serving colleges and universities. Measure(s): Develop a program to fund faculty-community collaborative projects on health disparities; assess the number of applications received and funded. Assess the number of faculty and community members hired or appointed to the center to engage in partnership- and collaboration building. Assess the number of partnerships and collaborative agreements established with minority medical groups and community organizations (baseline data to be collected.)
