Shoot the Water (1D60.61)

Concept/Purpose: Projectile Motion
Procedure/Explanation: This demo shows the parabolic shape of projectile motion by using a
continuous stream of water. A rubber hose is connected to the sink at the end of the lecture table.
The other end of the hose is connected to one end of a two-meter stick that is mounted
horizontally about 2 meters above the table. When you turn the water on the result is water
running out in a parabolic shape into the sink from a point two meters above and 2 meters to the
side of the sink. The two-meter stick has small wooden balls suspended to a point just above the
water stream that traces out the parabolic shape.
