James Dantonio By upgrading our current Tier 1 data center to a Tier 3 data center, our company will realize an annual saving of $24,114,528. After experiencing ten unplanned outages last year, it will be vital for our company to switch to a Tier 3 system. A Tier 3 system experiences much fewer outages due to its build in safety nets that a Tier 1 system lacks. Only three years after the instillation, our firm will save $13,229,056 in three years. Unlike our current Tier 1 data center which only has a primary cooling and power source the Tier 3 system we will have an alternative cooling and power sources to ensure our manufacturing company can run with minimal outages. With the second sources of power and cooling, the new data system is able to have maintenance performed frequently, keeping our equipment in great shape. All systems will also now have the ability to be taken offline while they undergo scheduled maintenance, resulting in no harm to the IT environment. Last year due to unreliability of the Tier 1 data system, we experienced ten outages resulting in the loss of $25,670,304. Installing a Tier 3 data system will reduce our annual loss to $1,555,776, which is an annual savings of $24,114,528. The initial cost for the implementation will be $35,000,000 and a year’s time, however, after the second year we will immediately see the savings of $24,114,528. In the subsequent years we will experience the same savings resulting in a net gain of $13,229,056 over three years. References: "Data Center Site Infrastructure Tier Standard Topology."
