Press Release HEC NEW PHASE OF COOPERATION IN CHINA 8th December 2005 HEC extends significantly its cooperation with China with the signature of a dual degree between the School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University and the HEC MBA. The new SEM of Tsinghua MBA – HEC MBA Dual Degree Recognizing the mutual benefits of fostering academic exchanges and partnership, Tsinghua School of Economics and Management and the HEC MBA Program will be offering a dual degree MBA program for each prospective MBA student from both schools. Participants in this unique program will benefit from the truly global nature of management education and international exposure, and will enter two powerful networks, providing true added value to the MBA experience. Tsinghua MBA students having completed their 1st year core curriculum will go to HEC to complete their 2nd year of MBA studies by taking elective courses from the HEC MBA Program. Requirements and obligations of each institution must be fulfilled before admission and the degrees are granted. China is one of HEC key markets, along with the USA and Europe. It is also along with India the fastest growing market in management education and one of the most competitive. HEC is present in three major cities Beijing, Shanghai and Hong- Kong with activities targeting three major audiences: business community, universities, and potential candidates. As Bernard Ramanantsoa, HEC Dean, points out: “HEC long-term collaborative agreements with Chinese Universities contribute to HEC reputation and attractiveness for potential candidates to Grande Ecole, MBA and Ph.D. programs. In parallel close links with leading European MNCs like Alcatel, AXA, L’Oréal or Siemens as well as leading Chinese corporations and institutions contribute to open new carrier opportunities to both expatriates and HEC graduates of Chinese origin. “ The signature of the HEC MBA dual degree agreement with Tsinghua adds a new dimension to a special cooperation between HEC and China already established for many years. HEC is clearly positioning itself as a very distinctive source of high flyers for international companies thanks to the rigor of selection process and the entrepreneurial and international spirit of its graduates. Leading international companies with European roots like AXA, Alcatel, Lafarge, L’Oréal, Michelin, Schneider Electric, Siemens, or St Gobain are increasingly seeking to recruit young managers with a dual culture: Chinese and international. “The AXA- HEC-Tsinghua initiative” Last September, Invited at Tsinghua University, Henri de Castries, Chairman of the Board and CEO of AXA announced the launching of the new “AXA- HEC-Tsinghua initiative” in the field of management education : The scheme will focus on research and faculty development offering joint education programs in management, strategy and finance. Special attention will be paid to the insurance, banking and asset management sector. HEC is SEM’s privileged European partner This new initiative broadens a distinctive partnership that dates back to 2001, when HEC became SEM’s privileged European partner. Since then, the academic collaboration has developed to include, along with the MBA dual degree, common projects in executive education, a joint research program on the strategy of Chinese multinationals, exchanges for faculty and MBA students and international programs using video conferencing. The School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University, has been founded in 1984 by Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji who was also the first Dean of the School.
