HEC AFFIRMS ITS AMBITION TO BECOME

A WORLD-CLASS LEADER

14th December 2005

HEC School of Management has presented its 2005-2010 Development Plan.

Its objective is to securely position HEC among the best business schools in the world, while affirming the school’s purpose in endorsing social responsibility. "In an international environment which is becoming increasingly competitive, a change in scale has proven necessary. Today, HEC’s development comes from redefining a strong and innovative teaching project that capitalizes on the school’s many assets in order to position itself as the French business school recognized as unique in America, Europe and Asia ", says

Pierre Simon, President of the Paris Chamber of Commerce (HEC’s parent organization). "The presence in France of a world-class management school is essential for the competitiveness of our country, and constitutes a tremendous asset for French businesses.”

HEC’s global ambitions are at the core of the 2005 – 2010 Plan. They will be implemented in the next five years by infusing the school with a tri-continental,

American/Asian/European scope, able to attract the best students and professors from around the world. For Bernard Ramanantsoa, HEC Dean, "HEC‘s global reach and success are closely correlated to the significant increase in faculty numbers, the reinforcement of the research effort, and the policy of sustaining alliances with the world’s top institutions in the field of management."

In parallel to these academic developments, the 2005 – 2010 Plan also outlines a very strong objective for HEC in the realm of social responsibility. More than ever before,

HEC feels it has to take an active role in promoting upward social mobility. Aware of its responsibility towards students of different origins, the school will be awarding scholarships to students at an earlier stage in their secondary school years to help them integrate more easily into higher education programs. At the same time, HEC will establish a recruitment and admissions policy for students of developing countries.

Finally, HEC will set up assistance programs for socially-oriented entrepreneurship. This

commitment combining academic excellence with a concern for social issues is vital to

HEC’s concept of "responsible action.”

A large part of the Plan’s success will result from renewing the academic environment on HEC’s main campus in Jouy-en-Josas. Campus facilities will be renovated and new constructions built. The real estate investment required will amount to 100 million euros over the next 7 years, in addition to 20 million euros in operating credits between 2006 and 2010.

In addition to the Paris Chamber of Commerce, the school’s Alumni Association and the HEC Foundation will be fully involved in this project. Finally, local government will be solicited for assistance in their fields of competence. All financial partners will play prominent roles in school governance as part of HEC’s Advisory Board.

" HEC’s global ambition, clearly displayed in the 2005 - 2010 Plan, should enable the school to fulfill its role in the business community. At the same time, it should encourage companies to support HEC not only financially but also in terms of the school’s human resources,” said Henri Proglio, President of the HEC Executive Board.
