Hispanic Policy Network Scholarship Application 2016 The Hispanic Policy Network at Texas State University has established an endowed scholarship fund to provide scholarships for students pursuing a college education. Funds for the scholarships are raised through the university’s annual charitable giving campaign and other fundraising activities. Scholarships in the amount of $1,000.00 will be awarded to undergraduate students and $1,200.00 for Graduate Students enrolled at Texas State. APPLICATION DEADLINE is April 1, 2016. Application Guidelines All applications must be emailed to the HPN Scholarship Committee; HPN_scholarship@txstate.edu Include in the subject headline: “HPN Scholarship” and submit the application by April 1, 2016. Awardees will be notified via email within two weeks of the deadline date. Scholarship recipients will be recognized at the HPN Spring Symposium. Scholarship information will be forwarded to the Texas State Financial Aid & Scholarship Office. Incomplete applications will not be eligible for consideration. Scholarship Criteria Undergraduate Student Scholarship Eligibility Hispanic/Latino Texas State University Student Will be enrolled as a full-time student for Fall 2016 semester (at least 12 semester credit hours of coursework) Overall GPA of 2.5 or higher Graduate Student Scholarship Eligibility Hispanic/Latino Texas State University Student Will be enrolled as a full-time student for Fall 2016 semester (at least 9 semester credit hours of coursework) Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher Additional weighting will be awarded for the following: -Dependent of Texas State employee -First generation college student (Neither parent has obtained a bachelor’s degree) -Demonstrated financial need (Low socioeconomic status) -Undocumented legal status and/or DACA (Deferred action for childhood arrivals) student -Community service/extracurricular activities while in high school or college/university setting A complete application with all of the following items must be submitted by the deadline: 1. Essay should include personal background, achievements and financial need for scholarship. 3. Two letters of recommendation: a. Character reference: Letter from a non-relative who is familiar with the student’s character. b. Academic reference: Letter from a teacher or professor familiar with academic success. 4.
