THEATRE ARTS
Theatre Arts Rules and Regulations
1. In order to exhibit in Theatre Arts, the 4-H member or group must be enrolled in:
Theatre Arts 1 – Play the Role: Acting Activities, Pub. BU-08070 or
Theatre Arts 2 - Become a Puppeteer: Puppetry Activities, Pub. BU-08071 or
Theatre Arts 3 - Set the Stage: Stagecraft Activities, Pub. BU-08072
2. See General Projects Guidelines.
3. County may submit three (3) entries to state fair.
Class 01- Theatre Arts 1
Exhibit one of the following items:
 A portfolio of acting activities completed during the current year. A video of
performances is NOT considered a portfolio and will not be accepted for exhibit;
OR
 Display illustrating a drawing/photograph of a clown character created by the
exhibitor; OR
 Display illustrating a picture story developed by the exhibitor.
Class 02-Theatre Arts 2
Exhibit one of the following items:
 Portfolio of activities with puppets completed during the current year (Use of
page protectors is recommended); OR
 Display on the history of puppets or puppetry in different cultures; OR
 Display a puppet created by the exhibitor; OR
 Display a story wheel and play adapted or written for puppets.
Class 03- Theatre Arts 3
Exhibit one of the following items:
 Portfolio of activities for set design; make-up; or sound, props or costuming
completed during the current year (Use of page protectors is recommended); OR
 Display that includes sound, props and costume charts appropriate for a selected
scene from a script; OR
 Display illustrating a character with make-up drawn or colored in. Include a
photograph of a person wearing the make-up and information on the character’s
personality or part in the play.
Class 04 – Theatre Arts Innovation
(Open to youth who were at least 13 years old on September 1 of the current 4-H year
and are enrolled in Theatre Arts.)
Demonstrate the skills and knowledge you have gained through the Theatre Arts
project. The exhibit may include, but isn’t limited to, original works, objects,
demonstrations, digital presentations, programs, websites, games, apps, performances,
or posters which you have made. Choose whatever method best show what you have
learned. Your exhibit should not fit in the other exhibit options for this project. You must

furnish any equipment you need for your exhibit. Internet service will not be provided
for the exhibit. All exhibits must include something visual, such as a printed copy of a
digital presentation, which will remain on display during the exhibition. Electronic
equipment will only be used during your personal judging time and will not remain on
display during the entire exhibit period.
Class 04 – Career Connection
Career Connection is not eligible for State Fair selection
4-H members age 10-18 may choose to participate in the Career Connections class for
an additional exhibit opportunity. 4-H’ers will exhibit a completed Career Connection
form for your age group (available at Extension office or online). Form should be
completed based upon information gathered about a related career and an interview
with someone in that specific career field. Form should be placed in a page protector or
report cover. Additional materials or information may be added. 4-H’er must make an
additional exhibit in the project category to participate in the Career Connection exhibit
class.
