National 4-H Week
October 4-10 is National 4-H Week. We hope that you will choose to celebrate 4-H and all that it is
either with your club or on your own. Check out our page on Facebook for facts about 4-H and
suggestions on how to celebrate the week. Please show your 4-H pride!
WGFA supports 4-H!
WGFA 94.1 would love to hear from members sharing what they like about 4-H. Any 4-H members in
their listening area are encouraged to call their Toll Free number (866-820-9494) and record a brief
snippet of what their club is doing or what they've done on an individual basis through 4-H, such as
projects or other opportunities you’ve had in 4-H. When you call, it will go directly to voicemail. Please
start out with your name, club, and a little bit of information that you want to share with listeners about
your experience in 4-H. Then they will play these recordings next week during National 4-H Week.
Record Books
Thank you to everyone who submitted record books and award applications. You should be proud of
the hard work you’ve put into keeping records and all that you’ve accomplished over the past year.
Record books will be returned to your club leaders this month and awards announced then as well.
Also, thank you to all the volunteers who stepped up and helped us with two nights of book and award
judging. Your help is deeply appreciated!
Federation
Federation is for 4-H club members who are in high school and are interested in doing county-wide
activities with members from other clubs. Meetings are monthly and we will plan community service as
well as fun activities. All interested members in Iroquois County there will be a meeting Oct. 25th here at
the Extension office (time TBA). Jen will be setting a date soon to meet with Ford County members.
Shooting Sports
New year of shooting begins! All current members and anyone interested in joining the Ford-Iroquois
Sharpshooters should attend the informational meeting tomorrow (Oct. 3), 10:00am at the Extension
office. Coordinators Jim Miller and Keith Lange will be on hand to discuss the program and upcoming
events. Enrollment papers for the club will also be available.
Good luck to Jessica J. as she competes tomorrow at the State 4-H Archery Shoot in Bunker Hill, IL! And
good luck to our 3 rifle competitors: Josie P., Scott M., and David D. when they shoot Oct. 17th at the
Central Illinois Precision Shooters (CIPS) indoor facility in Bloomington.
Fall Camping Opportunity
What a great way to spend the weekend with your favorite hunting partner! 4-H Camp White Tail is an
overnight weekend program tailored to adult-child “teams” who wish to learn various skills practiced by
outdoorsman in Central Illinois. Each adult may attend with up to three youth campers which must be at
least 10 years of age. 4-H membership is not required. Earn Hunter Safety Certification as required by
the Illinois Department of Natural Resources prior to obtaining a personal hunting license. Using the 4-H
“learn-by-doing” philosophy, participants will learn skills associated with archery, rifle, shotgun, and
watercraft safety. Experience issues involving wildlife conservation, tree stand safety, game care, wildlife
calls, hunting dogs, and much more! This is more than a classroom event!
The camp is held October 24-25 at 4-H Memorial Camp near Monticello. Cost is $50/person and includes
all supplies, lodging and four buffet-style meals. Space is limited, so register soon. For more information
visit the 4-H Memorial Camp website @
http://web.extension.illinois.edu/4hmemorialcamp/memorialcamp.cfm or call 217-762-2741.
For Leaders

the new year and recognition items for the past year.
Recognition items – As you go through your member recognition items (certificates, pins, etc)
please let us know of any errors you come across. Please understand that there is a lot of prep that
goes into these awards and we may make mistakes. Thanks!
