Leaf River Soaring Eagles 4-H Group Lydia Sherburne, Club Co-Reporter Penny Carnival On March 5, 2016 many local 4-H groups participated in the Penny Carnival. The theme of the carnival this year was "Exploring the Wonders of Science". There were many fun games to play to help local kids learn more about science. Each 4-H group gave away prizes such as candy and stickers. The Leaf River Soaring Eagles Club brought a project game called "What's Inside Your Body ". It was a game that was similar to the Operation Game by Hasbro. The game had removable body parts such as the femur, the tibia, the heart, and the brain. The project also included questions on the human body and posters of body parts. Interestingly a man from Illinois, John Spinello invented the actual game, in 1964 while he was a student at the University of Illinois. He sold the rights of the game to Milton Bradley for $500. The best part of the Penny Carnival was seeing all the kids having fun. At our project game we watched the kids concentrating hard to pull out each body part. It was fun to watch them and see their excitement when they were able to pull the body part out. 4-H is a good way to be part of the community. Groups get to participate in exciting activities like the Penny Carnival. It is a great learning experience and loads of fun. If you would like more information on 4-H and to find a group near you, call the Ogle County Extension Office at (815) 732-2191. The Leaf River Soaring Eagles meet the second Monday of each month at the River Valley Complex in Leaf River at 6:30. We love visitors!
