VOLUNTEER ROLE DESCRIPTION
Diplomatic Corps Leader
Diplomatic Corps is a group of 4-H members who carry out public relations activities for the county.
Members of this group are provided the opportunity to demonstrate leadership skills and become
acquainted with additional career opportunities.
Purpose:
To facilitate Diplomatic Corps meetings and activities. To work as a team
member with Diplomatic Corps, other Diplomatic Corps leaders, and Extension
Unit Youth Staff in providing leadership and educational opportunities for 4-H
Diplomatic Corps members.
Success Criteria:
Completing yearly goals. Communicating monthly with other leaders and
Diplomatic Corps members by telephone, e-mail, or mail. Involving Diplomatic
Corps members in leadership activities. Complete 2-3 leadership activities
annually. Diplomatic Corps leadership teams perform effectively.
Time Required:
2-4 hours per month
Responsibilities:
• Assist members in setting annual goals of planning and promoting 4-H and
Extension activities.
• Complete annual plan of work for Diplomatic Corps.
• Prepare a budget for Diplomatic Corps program expenses.
• Develop a risk management plan for the group and it’s activities.
• Secure insurance as needed.
• Assign team leadership for member activities.
• Meet regularly (schedule monthly meetings and call special meetings, as
needed).
• Handle correspondence/communication to leaders and members.
• Recruit new members from local community clubs.
• Train officers on parliamentary procedures.
• Provide help for officers in preparing meeting agendas.
• Participate in unit, county, regional and statewide events and programs.
• Provide adequate leadership for team activities.
• Recommend leadership and career opportunities to members.
• Maintain regular contact/communication with Extension Office.
• Attend training and keep up to date on unit, regional and state programs.
• Assist members in evaluation of the Diplomatic Corps activities.
Target Dates:
September through August. Monthly or more frequent meetings.
