VOLUNTEER ROLE DESCRIPTION 4-H - Where Kids Invent Themselves Coordinator Purpose: To coordinate the 4-H promotion efforts in the Extension Unit in targeted areas as defined by the Expansion and Review Committee. Specific age group of 12 -14 year olds. Success Criteria: Coordination of "4-H - Where Kids Invent Themselves" presentations at middle and junior high schools - specifically targeting science clubs and classrooms. Planning and implementation of "4-H - Where Kids Invent Themselves" discovery sessions in targeted areas of the Extension Unit. Youth are involved in presentations. (Carefully selected adult or high school youth – not peers of this age group.) New youth and adults are recruited for 4-H groups. Responsibilities: • Develop a plan in conjunction with unit staff for recruitment in the Extension Unit based on recommendations of the 4-H Expansion and Review Committee. • Prepare a budget in cooperation with the Unit leader for "4-H - Where Kids Invent Themselves” promotion presentations. • Recruit carefully selected adults or high school youth - not peers - to conduct classroom presentations and assist with Discovery Sessions. • Assist in contacting middle and junior high schools about school presentation for 12 – 14 year olds. • Coordinate dates and locations of follow up discovery sessions. • Invite Club Organizer Coordinator to discovery sessions and coordinate roles at that event. • Order materials for classroom presentations and discovery sessions. • Assist in planning, preparing, and presenting classroom presentations. • Be sure to thank teachers and other school officials. • Invite interested youth and adults to discovery session. • Assist in preparing and hosting discovery session, which includes “hands on” 4-H experiences • Submit written report on classroom presentations and discovery sessions to Unit Office and to Organizer Coordinator - give names of youth and prospects for volunteers. • Coordinate activities with other Middle Management Expansion Volunteers. • Prepare progress reports for the Expansion and Review Committee. Time Required: 4 - 8 hours per classroom presentation and discovery session, which includes planning, preparation, and follow up.
