VOLUNTEER ROLE DESCRIPTION 4-H Fair/Show Committee Purpose: Supervise, plan and coordinate activities of annual 4-H Fair/Show in cooperation with 4-H project fair superintendents. Success Criteria: 4-H families and volunteers participate in a positive learning experience to evaluate 4-H projects. Time Required: One year Responsibilities: • Target Dates: September Resources Available: Resource Files; Consultation with Former Committee Members; Extension Staff; Superintendents. Attend meetings of the committee Consult with Extension Staff and local county fair board (if necessary) to select date(s) Identify& recruit 4-H Show Superintendents Communicate information on judging procedures to superintendents Secure judges for project areas Secure Food Stand Manager, if needed Trouble-shoot during 4-H Fair/Show Accept registration of complaints and suggestions and forward appropriately Secure trophy and award sponsors and organize Parade of Champions Prepare grounds, including any decorations, before show and clean up afterwards Assist when needed during the 4-H Fair/Show Develop a risk management plan for fair/show and related events Secure insurance and certificates of insurance as needed Provide orientation for 4-H show superintendents and other helpers as well as judges Survey past superintendents for comments and suggested changes. Appoint superintendents for next 4-H Fair/Show. January Review last year’s fair book and suggested State Fair changes to update current 4-H Fair/Show Book. March 1 Fair Book Copy due; Contact judges. May 31 All trophy and award sponsors secured; All judges secured. June-August Conduct 4-H Fair/Show and complete Fair finish-up activities. Training Opportunities: Orientation meetings in September; Individual Consultation with Extension Staff; 4-H Volunteer Trainings (Risk Management; Working with Others; Conflict Resolution, etc.), Former Committee members.
