4-H VOLUNTEER ROLE DESCRIPTION Role Title: Mentor Leader Purpose: Mentor Leader will orient and support new leader mentees in organization and management of the 4-H club/group. Success Criteria: New volunteer leaders of 4-H clubs/groups will complete orientation. They will be aware of policies, responsibilities, and opportunities and gain skills and confidence in performing their new roles. Responsibilities: Attend training for mentor leaders. Provide orientation to new leaders (Organization, Project, and Activity) in assigned 4-H club. Provide information related to policies, responsibilities, and opportunities. Support and counsel individual volunteer leaders as they perform their roles. Assist leaders with group management issues. Coordinate efforts with other middle management volunteers organizing new 4-H clubs and unit Extension employees Assist Extension staff in conducting new leader workshops. Keep a log of activities and time spent, providing progress reports to Extension Unit Mentor Leader Coordinator. Time Required: One year (approximately 8 hours per month). The first three months may require more time, later months slightly less. Target Dates: Peak time to begin orienting is usually October through November. (New leaders may begin at other times during the year. That will require a more intense mentor-mentee relationship.)
