Student Success Resources There are several resources on campus to help you succeed! Being aware of these resources is the first step to succeeding in college; taking advantage of them is the next step! Academic Advising: Located near the Commons in C100, you can also e-mail advisors at tcinfo@lonestar.edu or find more information at lonestar.edu/advising o Add/Drop classes, degree planning & course selection, placement testing referral, transfer information, pre-graduation advising, and more! Textbooks: Located in the breezeway between the East hall and the East wing, the bookstore accepts cash, checks and all major credit cards. Book vouchers are available through the financial aid office. There is the added convenience of an online ordering system. lonestar.edu/bookstore o Textbooks may also be available from offcampus bookstores, including online bookstores. The Library also works to keep current copies of textbooks available for student use. Business Office: Located in the Commons, the business office accepts various payments from students and can help you better understand your bill. More information is available at lonestar.edu/bursar-cashier Career Services: Career counselors and advisors are available to help you with planning a career path, writing a resume and cover letter, developing a job search plan, and practicing interviewing for a job. For more information go to: lonestar.edu/career-services o Students may take the free “Do What You Are” assessment online and make an appointment with a career counselor to help identify possible career interests: collegescope.com/lonestar Catalog: The LSC catalog will help you understand college policies, degree plans, course descriptions and prerequisites. It is your responsibility as a student to know LSCS policies, including deadlines, and to understand your degree plan. The catalog is available online at lonestar.edu/lscs-catalog Computer Lab: Computers are available for student use throughout campus. An open computer lab in S 212 also has staff available to assist students with limited technology concerns. Counseling: Counselors are here to help you succeed regarding your academic, or career concerns. Located in S 104, counselors may make referrals to other community resources for students with additional personal concerns. Appointments can be made by calling 281-351-3380. Disability Services: Disability Services focuses on helping students with disabilities make a successful transition to college and acts as a referral source for services both on campus and within the community. Visit us at lonestar.edu/disability-services o Assistive Technology Lab: Located where staff is available with advanced technological resources to help students with disabilities be more successful in their courses. For more information, call the AT Lab at 281.401.1881 Discipline: Lone Star College assumes students are familiar with ordinary rules governing proper conduct and students will observe these rules as a matter of training and habit. o The Lone Star College Code of Conduct and discipline procedures may be found at lonestar.edu/conduct. Dual Credit: This program is designed specifically for high school juniors and seniors ready for college-level instruction. The program allows students to take college-level courses to meet both high school graduation requirements and gain college credit. Visit lonestar.edu/dualcredit. Employment: There are several ways students may work for Lone Star College. o Work-Study: This program provides jobs for students with financial aid who qualify for the program. Students work a maximum of 19.5 hours per week. Visit lonestar.edu/workstudy. o Human Resources: Job opportunities are posted at lonestar.edu/employment and may be available for qualified individuals. Students should consider school and work schedules carefully. Extended Learning Center (ELC): Services offered by the Extended Learning Center (ELC) include tutoring, access to advanced computer equipment and software, labs, seminars, and facilitated study groups. o Tutors are available for a variety of subjects. If you need extra help in your classes, take advantage of this resource. The ELC is located on the 2nd floor of the Library. For more information call 832-559-4240 or go to lonestar.edu/learning-tomball o Online Writing Tool Students may submit documents 24-hours a day to the online writing submission tool and have their work critiqued. Log-on to myLonestar, search “Community Groups”, find “Tomball On-line Writing Lab”, and follow the instructions to submit your work. Students typically receive a response within 48hours. Contact the ELC with questions or concerns. Financial Aid: The Financial Aid office can help you achieve your educational potential by providing appropriate financial resources. Financial Aid provides information about the Federal Application for Financial Assistance (FAFSA), grants, loans, scholarships, and work study opportunities. Food Service: The Commons Café has a variety of food options available to students for breakfast and lunch. Visit lonestar.edu/café-tomball for more information. o The Internet Café is located in the library and offers coffees, teas, and light snacks in the afternoon and evenings. Library: The ability to research and access information is important to your college success! The Lone Star College-Tomball Community Library is about more than just books. MyLoneStar: Our online web site allows you to access your student information and is a “one-stop shop” for online access to registering and paying for classes, online learning, e-mail, and technology help. Testing/Assessment Center: Located in the library room 201, the assessment center provides a variety of testing services for students and the community. Proctored exams offered include: LSCOnline and make-up exams, COMPASS, CLEP, Challenge Exams, and correspondence testing. Visit lonestar.edu/testing-tomball for more information. Transcripts: Students should order transcripts for their self or to send to another school online via getmytranscript.com; the cost for a LSC official transcript is $9. Any student transferring credit to Lone Star College should request their official (sealed) transcript be sent to LSC. TRiO: This student support service tailors advising, tutoring, educational planning, enrichment activities and more to individual student needs. Offices are located in W-219; TRiO is a limited participation program and interested students can visit lonestar.edu/tomball-trio for more information.
