KMS Girls Athletics Information 1. Athletes must have their UIL paperwork filled out online and a hard copy of their physical and medical history turned in before they may participate in athletics. If your daughter has a physical dated on or after January 1, 2016 for cheerleading tryouts, that physical is good for next year, but you must go online and fill out the online athletic registration forms. The parent/guardian and the athlete must fill out online forms. Instructions for online athletic registration can be found on the KMS Athletic website and it has been sent out through e-mail blast from BCI. *Please keep a copy of the physical for your records. **Athletes are not eligible to participate in athletics until we have a hard copy of their physical, medical history forms and the parent and student online registration is completed. Lack of completed paperwork and/or registration will result in removal from athletics. ***If an athlete misses a day of volleyball tryouts due to not having paperwork completed, they will not be able to make that day up. 2. KMS Girls Athletics offers volleyball, basketball, cross country, track, soccer, swimming/diving and wrestling. Cross Country is the only no cut sport. Swimming/diving and wrestling are coached by the high school coaches. 3. Volleyball and basketball practices will begin before school. Track, soccer, swimming and wrestling practices are after school. Our goal each year is to have a before school and after school practice option for cross country. Hopefully, we will be able to do that for next season. 4. Volleyball season is the beginning of September until the end of October. Cross Country season is the beginning of September through mid-October. Wrestling is November through mid-December. Basketball season is mid-November through mid-February. Track season is late February through mid-April, and soccer and swimming seasons are mid-April through mid-May. 5. We have an A, B and C team for volleyball and basketball. Cross Country has one team for some meets and an A and B team for zone and district. Track is dependent upon athletes qualifying for specific events for each meet. This year we had an A and B team for soccer. These were combined 7th and 8th grade athletes. As far as we know, this will be the case next year. 6. We encourage our athletes to try out for, and participate in all of the sports. It is possible to play volleyball and run cross country. We encourage all of our athletes to run cross country. 7. Athletes are required to dress in a solid white or Keller Pride t-shirt, solid royal or Keller Pride shorts, athletic socks, and appropriate tennis shoes every day. Hair is expected to be pulled back and no jewelry is allowed during athletics. During cold weather, gray sweats are required outside. *No Soffee shorts or Nike wind shorts. *If ear piercings are in your daughter’s future, please have this done ASAP so that there will not be an issue with removing earrings for athletics. 8. Athletes that do not try out for, or do not make, the volleyball or basketball teams will be in off-season. Off-season is during the athletic period only and consists of a variety of activities such as strength, speed and endurance training, agility activities, fun games and sport specific skills for the upcoming seasons. 9. Game nights: Volleyball – Thursdays, Basketball – Thursdays, Cross Country – Saturdays and Wednesdays, Track – Thursdays, Soccer – Mondays. Volleyball, basketball and soccer teams could potentially have up to two tournaments per season. These tournaments may be held on Saturdays. 10. Expectations – Athletes that try out for and make a KMS team are expected to attend all practices, games and tournaments. Please make sure that any outside club or select activities will not interfere with KMS practice, game, and tournament schedules before your daughter tries out. 11. Your daughter’s physical and medical history report should be turned into Bear Creek by June 2nd, or before the Introduction to Athletics sessions if she is planning on participating in them. If not turned in by June 2nd, they must be turned in to the receptionist at the KISD administration building; NOT Keller Middle School. Please make sure that you and your daughter complete the online paperwork as soon as possible. 12. These are not mandatory sessions but again, it is a great opportunity for relationships to begin being built between coaches and athletes. The girls are welcome to participate in as many sessions as they like. *Anyone participating must have their physical turned in.
