George and Lilybel Althaus Leadership Award George and Lilybel Althaus were long time supporters of 4-H. George was a 4-H Youth leader for 30 years and impacted over 100 children in that time. He and his wife, a school teacher, were grain and livestock farmers in LaRose, IL. They also raised championship Chester White swine and were involved with the Chester White Swine Association. Through their participation in 4-H, church activities, agriculture associations and other clubs, George and Lilybel truly knew and appreciated the importance of leadership and this monetary award is being given by their family in their honor. One $500 Scholarship will be awarded for the next 4 years (2019). Eligibility: Must be a current Marshall-Putnam County 4-H member for year of application Must be a graduating high school senior Must have been a Marshall-Putnam County 4-H member for the most recent four consecutive years (including application year) Must be enrolled in a two or four year program or technical/trade school Must be accepted at chosen school, college, or university Must be full-time student, 12 hours minimum per semester; auditing of classes cannot be included in the minimum Scholarship Winners will be announced at the Evening Program of the Marshall-Putnam 4-H Show. Selection will be made by the scholarship committee based on the questions that the applicants answer. The application must be typewritten. The scholarship committee reserves the right to make judgment on cases not covered by the above guidelines. This scholarship will be paid directly to the winners in one installment, at the beginning of the first semester or quarter. A written letter of enrollment from the school is required in order for the recipient to obtain the scholarship payment. If for some reason the recipient is unable to enroll or withdraws from school, the awarded scholarship will be returned in full. A first and second alternate may be selected.
