College Diversity Roundtable Meeting Minutes 11/10/2008 Presentation: Latino Climate at the University of Rochester UR students Catherine Laureano and Estefany Angeles gave a presentation about the climate for Latino students COFHE statistics used to compare UR to other schools No change in faculty representation at UR between 2001 and 2007 Latin American Studies minor under-publicized; enough courses for a major Lack of College sponsored events: Latino Professional Alliance submitted a list of possible events to the CDR and college administration without results No established alumni organization for Latinos Student recommendations: o Provide programming during Latino Heritage Month o Create a Latino Alumni Association o Events promoting diversity during orientation specifically focused on Latino students Discussion: o Dean of Students Rich Feldman: There have been students who have been Latin American Studies Majors; he will look at how their degrees were put together. He will also look into a Latin American Alumni Association o Lydia Crews from Student Activities: Cultural Groups are charged with creating awareness and celebration of culture. Students should consider pooling resources when trying to fund events as it can be hard to find funding for smaller events. Subcommittee Reports Communications/marketing: working with events calendar, CDR website and disseminating new brochure Climate Survey dissemination committee- planning a day of events 1/19/2009- online registration and OUCH! Training; 4 sessions: harassment, classroom climate, admissions and Q&A about the survey. A poetry slam will end the event.
