WHO: Cowboy Battalion and Air Force Detachment 940 WHAT: Joint Military Ball WHEN: 14 NOV 2014 WHERE: University of Wyoming Yellowstone Ballroom SUMMARY: On the 14th of November 2014, both ROTC programs at the University of Wyoming participated together in a formal event, including dinner, a guest speaker, and dancing at the Joint Military Ball. The Joint Military Ball is held every year in November between the Army ROTC Cowboy Battalion and Air Force ROTC Detachment 940. Around 17:15 on Friday the 14th of November people start arriving at the Yellowstone Ballroom for the Social Hour. Cadets and Cadre from the University of Wyoming Army and Air Force ROTC Programs socialized with each other, their dates, and other guests. After 45 minutes of socializing, everyone began to make toward the greeting line In the greeting line, Cadets from both ROTC programs were introduced to the distinguished guest, Colonel Doral Sandlin, as they entered the ballroom. Once the receiving line was complete, the occupants of the Head Table made their way to the table and both Cadet Commanders introduced the head table. The Betties, a talented women’s a capella group, sang the national anthem. After the introductions, there were traditional toasts to honor leaders and organizations of the United States, and a detail honoring prisoners of war and those missing in action. This was a very somber ceremony to honor the POW/MIA soldiers of all the branches in the US Military. Once this ceremony was over everybody enjoyed a dinner socializing with their own tables. After everybody was finished with dinner, Colonel Sandlin gave a speech about what was next for the military and about leadership. Members of the ASUW Student Senate and the UW Student Body President attended the event to experience formal military dining. They chose a great example as the Joint Military Ball was a huge success and a great opportunity for the Army ROTC and Air Force ROTC programs to collaborate and increase esprit de corps.
