COMMUNITY SERVICE
This committee includes 3 programs: Seed to Supper; Plant a Row for the Hungry (PAR); and Grace
Center. Members provide education on growing edible crops through classes and workshops for novice
gardeners. Seed to Supper is a FREE six-session beginning gardening course designed for adults gardening
on a budget. Two classes will include programming for children as well. PAR provides information to the
public who want to donate fresh produce to food banks. Grace Center works with adults in the adult day
care center.
Serves as a liaison for Corvallis Sustainability Coalition efforts and events that align with the Master
Gardener program mission.
EDUCATION
Serves as a liaison for the Benton County Extension Advisory Network to ensure that the needs of Benton
County citizens are communicated to the Master Gardener program. Also works on organizing Benton
County Extension events that need Master Gardener representation.
Committee is responsible for providing Master Gardeners to staff the Benton County OSU Extension
information table at events within Benton County. The events generally run between May and October.
Events are Corvallis Farmers’ Market, the association Plant Sale, Corvallis Spring Festival, da Vinci Days,
and other events. Sign up to work at a Clinic Table.
Committee meets as needed to select lecture topics; to arrange for speakers; to interact with co-sponsors
Benton Center of Linn-Benton Community College and the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library; to
moderate and video the program, as well as provide meeting room set-up/take-down. There are eight
Tuesday noontime talks, January through February, at the Corvallis Library.
This event is free to the public and will feature a variety of hands-on activities for youth and guided
bilingual hikes. The goal is to introduce participants to the outdoor activities in the OSU College Forests.
Committee is responsible for all aspects of the Benton County Master Gardener™ one-day event that will
occur annually on the first Saturday of the first full week in February. This committee will select topics to
be presented as well as the speakers who will make the presentations. This committee is the source of
much of the funds that are utilized by the other committees and activities of the association.

GARDENS & GARDENING
Committee meets the second Tuesday of each month for 2-3 hours beginning at 9 a.m. The committee
usually meets March through November. Meetings in December through February are at the discretion of
the chair. They care for the Master Gardener™ corner of Central Park by planting new plants, weeding,
pruning, renewing bark mulch, and making the garden a pleasant sight for Corvallis citizens.
Committee meets every Wednesday morning (9:30 a.m.) March to October to create and maintain a
demonstration vegetable and fruit garden at the Benton County Fairgrounds. New and unusual varieties
and growing techniques are demonstrated. MGs staff the garden during the county fair. Committee
members are not expected to be at every meeting, but to come when they are able.
Committee meets Saturday mornings, beginning in April. Create and maintain the garden beds flanking
the south entrance and on the east side of the Floral Courtyard at the Benton County Fairgrounds The
gardens demonstrate sustainable gardening methods, including a water-wise garden. Emphasis is on yearround appearance, with special attention to the week of the county fair. Committee members are not
expected to be at every meeting, but to come when they are able.

PROGRAM & ASSOCIATION SUPPORT
Committee is made up of 3 subcommittees (reference, computer, & mentor). These subcommittees work
together to provide cohesive and coordinated protocols for MGs who work at the desk and interact with the
public.
Subcommittee meets as needed to support and document MG desk computers and associated hardware and
software.
Subcommittee meets as needed to provide mentors for new MG trainees. They answer questions and teach
the trainees desk procedures for the MG Help Desk. The mentor coordinator is a member of the Desk
Committee.
Subcommittee meets as needed to review, recommend, purchase and catalog needed reference material for
the MG desk and training.
Committee chronicles the happenings of the association throughout the year and takes or collects photos of
these events. These records are placed into scrapbook or digital files as a pictorial history of BCMGA for
display at Mini College and at selected meetings of the membership.
Committee coordinates various social events throughout the year, provides the beverage service at
meetings, and solicits refreshments for these meetings. Every two years (odd years), this committee is in
charge of coordinating the mentor/trainee luncheon and the awards/graduation meeting in November.
Committee is chaired by the president elect. This committee procures silent auction items for the Oregon
Master Gardener Association summer meeting.
As an umbrella to nine subcommittees (Design, Delivery, Broadcast, Display, Print, Social Media,
Festivals, Photo/Video and Recruiting/Retention) the Outreach Committee works to improve the Benton
County Master Gardeners Association’s standing in the community and to help publicize its efforts.
Committee meets as needed to organize this large event, held the first Saturday of May at the Benton
County Fairgrounds. Landscape plants are primarily gathered by digging at private gardens at Dig and
Divide events in October and March and through donations by Master Gardeners. Vegetables, tender
perennials, annuals, and herbs are grown through a cooperative project at the Philomath High School
Forestry greenhouses. This is one of two main fundraising activities and requires lots of help from all
members.
