English 11R is designed to develop the reading, writing, listening, and critical thinking skills of each
student. Each student will be responsible for taking and passing the NYS English Regents Examination in
January or June of 2013. In addition, a focus for marking period 1 will be SAT preparation. Students will be
expected to take the May 2013 SAT. The following is an outline detailing your responsibilities as a student.

PREPAREDNESS
A. Attitude: You must come to class READY TO LEARN.
B. Punctuality: You MUST be in class and SEATED when the bell rings! You will receive one
warning and then be subject to detention. You are expected to be here on time each day. The
first lateness will be dealt with by me. The second will result in detention and the third with a
parent conference. No exceptions.
C. Materials: You are required to have ALL materials in class and be ready to use them! In
addition, you are responsible for bringing any assigned reading materials to class.
1. 1 vinyl, green loose-leaf binder divided into four sections. (literature,
writing/composition, vocabulary/words, Regents/SAT)
RESPECT
A. You are to treat EVERYONE with respect. This includes your classmates.
B. ATTITUDE WILL NOT BE TOLERATED! You get NO WARNING! The first instance will be
dealt with in class. Should a problem persist, other consequences will be given out.
C. Respect the material discussed in class. Novels, poems, essays, and lessons, are all products
of someone’s hard work. That someone may be a famous author, a teacher or a fellow
student. Treat both the material and the maker with dignity and respect.
ACADEMICS
A. You must complete all assignments on time. Assignments include:
1. Reading Assignments. You will be prepared to discuss outside readings in
class. Outside reading will always be quizzed.
2. Homework. Homework will be assigned weekly and, unless otherwise
instructed, due the following day.
3. Projects. All project work must be done on time.
B. You must keep your notebook in order. All handouts are to be kept in the notebook and in
good condition.

Notebooks and Homework assignments may be checked periodically
and given a grade! This is an easy and worthwhile way to gain points!
C. You are expected to participate in class discussions.
D. The works of literature to be covered this year include: To Kill a Mockingbird, Macbeth,
Death of a Salesman and The Catcher in the Rye. In addition, there will be one outside reading
assignment per semester and a final literary essay due in June.

Students will reach a maximum of 100 percent each marking period based on the following:

The NYS English

REGULATIONS
A. As stated above, all work is to be completed on time.
B. Standard school regulations will apply.
C. Passes will be given ONLY IN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS. You will not be permitted to leave
the room to retrieve materials.

Operation Success is available for all major subjects.
I will be available Monday through Thursday from 7 am. – 7:45 am or by appointment.
