preliminary application form

Department of Classical Studies
Before you make a formal application to the OU Research School it is recommended that you discuss
your plans with the department. This is to advise on the viability of your proposal and to see whether we
can provide you with supervisors (as even if we have departmental staff with relevant expertise they may
not always be able to take on further research students). So even if you are rather unsure at the moment
about how your ideas may shape up, or a particular direction you might like to take in your research
please provide the following information so that we can set up this initial useful dialogue. You will usually
be referred in the first instance to the member of department who is responsible for liaising with applicants
and who will then contact colleagues whose expertise is most closely relevant.
Please note that the department deadline for this preliminary application is 15th December for
consideration for admission as a part-time student in the following October. The final deadline for full
applications for PhD study is in mid-January. Please check the website for the precise date.
