UJI AKTIVITAS ANTIMIKROBA EKSTRAK CASSIA VERA (Cinnamomum burmanni Nees ex Blume) FAUZAN AZIMA Nomor Kontrak : 089/J.16/PL/DIPA/IV/2005 ABSTRACT Cassia vera bark are commonly used as spices and as traditional medical. The aim of the research was to examine the antimicrobial activity of cassia vera bark extract and to determine chemical and phytochemical contents of cassia vera bark extract as bioactive compound. Ethanol extract of cassia vera bark contains total phenol (62,25 %) that was higher than water extract (9,30%), and contains flavonoid, tannins, triterpenoid and saponin that were also higher than those of the water extract. The most sensitive bacteria was Streptococcus thermophilus and the most resistant was Salmonella typhi. The MICs of cassia vera extract against S.typhi , Bacillus cereus, Escherichia coli, Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Streptococcus thermophilus were 3,33, 2,37, 2,25, 2,12, 1,82, 1,80, 1nd 1,56% respectively.
