Art 8
Course Description: Students will learn the basic Elements of Art and the Principles of
Design. They will learn these concepts through hands-on projects, using different media.
Their visual art experience will guide them through Art
History, and teach them to appreciate their own creativity. Art 8 is a prequel to Studio Art,
which is their foundation
course in art, as well as their pathway to other future electives.
Class rules:
Be on time.
No food or drinks.
Inappropriate language will not be tolerated.
Be on task. You will be expected to work from bell to bell.
Be prepared. Supplies will be kept in the room, so there will be no excuses.
RESPECT- you will have it for each other and for me.

A spiral- bound 9x12” sketchbook- NOT SMALLER, NO TAPED EDGES
1 dozen #2 pencils- NOT mechanical
2 good erasers
2 hand-held sharpeners with plastic covers to hold shavings
2 black double-sided sharpie markers (Or 1 Regular-Point and 2 Ultra Fine- Point)
A box of 24 Crayola colored pencils- NOT Prang or Rose Art brands
A box of Crayola markers (Thick or Thin)
A pencil case to keep your supplies in.
Supplies will be available for purchase as a Sewanhaka student package with 40% off at
the Blick Art store, 168 B Glen Cove Road, Carle Place (516) 248-1555
The total price, tax included, is $18.46. A representative from the Blick Store will be
here on Monday, February 8 between 8-2:00 to sell the supply kit here!!
Students will be evaluated on the following:
-Projects/Classwork-60% (Everyday a project is late, 5 points will be deducted)
- Tests/Quizzes- 15%
- Homework/Paper/Research/Prepared- 10%
- Class Participation (ex: notebook, sketchbook, critique, do now activities, punctuality) - 15%
- There will be a final exam given at the end of the course, which will count as a third quarter
grade.
