Technical staff
Below is an indicative list of all sorts of topics that have been discussed by
mentors and their colleagues at University of Nottingham.
Spaces have been left under each suggestion for you to make your own
notes as you see fit.
Understanding the aims of the Unit and its formal and informal
administrative structures
The role and objectives of technical staff in the Unit and their professional
relationship with other staff (academic, clerical, secretarial, etc) within the
unit.
Interpersonal relationships and communication skills (staff and students)
Identifying key individuals to contact within and beyond the Unit and, as
appropriate, arranging meetings for the mentee with appropriate staff
Opportunities for career and staff development
Guidance and advise on safe working practices and personal protection
(including HSAW regs)
Formal and informal training in relevant computer systems and software
