Re:
Perkins I_C 15-16 VTEA Proposals
March 1, 2016
Dear Faculty,
The Perkins budget and planning process is underway. It is almost time to submit your proposal
for the 2016-17 Perkins “VTEA “ funds. The deadline to receive final proposals to be
considered for 2016-17 Perkins funds is April 4, 2016. Please submit your proposals to me
and copy Melina Boyd.
Attached to this memo is our NEW Perkins application form. You will need to submit a form for
each mini project that has a separate budget category. Please prioritize your proposed projects.
As you think about potential projects for next year, please consider the institution’s planning
priorities and your most recent Program Review report. We are giving strong consideration to
plans that focus specifically on improving CTE student success rates as defined by completed
Certificates of Achievement, Certificates of Completion, Skills Certificates, and Job Placements.
Please review whether your unit is on target with the Five Perkin’s Indicator’s that include
Technical Skill Attainment, Credential-Certificate or Degree Attainment, Persistence or Transfer,
Placement, and Nontraditional Participation and Completion. If, by chance, data indicates we are
falling below our targeted goals, you will need to work with me or Kathy Takemoto to help you
justify your VTEA proposal. If you have questions please give me or Kathy a call.
We are still waiting on the final 2016-17 allocations; we suspect they will be similar to last year.
The 2016-17 priority for funding is equipment, software, and instructional supplies. Professional
development (conference) and part-time staff (tutoring) will be considered if it is critical to your
unit’s program needs. Please remember to include all tax, shipping and installment costs in your
proposals. Also note that Perkins funding cannot be used on staffing or for the same
project for more than three consecutive years.
If you have questions about how VTEA funds can be used, please feel free to ask me for
direction. The best way to contact me is by email at epratt@marin.edu.
Thank you in advance for your hard work! Beth
